Each review score is between 1 and 10. To get the overall score you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of them. We use a weighted review system, which means the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. Guests can also give separate “subscores” in crucial areas like location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value, and free Wifi. Note that guests submit their subscores and overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an accommodation that you booked through our platform if you stayed there, or if you got to the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialize in detecting fake reviews submitted to our platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team so that our fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we'd publish every review we get, positive and negative. However, we won’t display any reviews that include or refer to (among other things):
- Politically sensitive comments
- Promotional content
- Illegal activities
- Personal or sensitive info (e.g. emails, phone numbers, credit card info)
- Swear words, sexual references, hate speech, discriminatory remarks, threats, or references to violence
- Spam and fake content
- Animal cruelty
- Impersonation (i.e. if the writer is claiming to be someone else)
- Any violation of our review guidelines.
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out. We may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old, or if the accommodation has a change of ownership.
An accommodation can reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (e.g. language, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). You can sort and/or filter them by time of year, review score, and more.
Sometimes we show external review scores from other well-known travel websites, but make it clear when we do this.
Guidelines and Standards for Reviews
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly, without limiting expression or strong opinions. They're also applicable regardless of the comment's tone.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. This was my third visit. Jim, the host, was out when I arrived; however, the lady whose name I did not get booked me in was polite and friendly and got me settled in my room. The room was well presented, clean, with tea/coffee facilities, clean towels and a comfortable bed (I had a good night's sleep). Jim greeted me at breakfast, which was a self-serve full English with a selection of various teas and coffees, fresh fruit juices and cereals. A very hospitable place to stay.

The location is excellent. We were able to walk everywhere. It’s a 2 minute walk to the nearest beach where we were able to have a morning swim before a delicious breakfast. Jim was an amazing host. He is very knowledgeable of the surrounding areas and gave us good recommendations. Best value stay in Margate!

The staff were very welcoming and super friendly, the beds were very comfy and the rooms were clean. And the location was spot on! Only a 10 minute walk into the main part of Margate. Ideal spot if you're spending the weekend or like we were going to a gig.

I stayed in the top floor room. It was nice to have a private bathroom, but the ceilings in the room and bathroom were low and slanted, so I bumped my head several times, even though I'm not very tall.
Shenandoah House is located in a quiet area, close to the beach, and has street parking.

Jim was so very welcoming, the room spacious, clean and comfortable. So close to margate just a very short walk, was very pleased with our stay and will definitely come back again

Only thing i would say being on the top floor the celling slope down not great if your tall .but Everything else was great .
Freindly host and dog friendly . nice place about 10 minute walk down into main part of margate . Close to the beach could see it from our room . Nice breakfast in the morning too.

There was no key available to the room/cabin I stayed in, which was a bit uncomfortable but I believe that this was only temporary. I also noticed the curtain to the cabin was slightly see through at night so not ideal for changing. Although the mattress and pillows were very comfortable, the sheets could have been a bit softer.
Great location, just a 2min walk from the Westbrook Bay beach and then about a 10min walk to Margate's Main Sands beach (which is a very lovely walk indeed!). Cosy, clean house and welcoming environment. The host, Jim, was very friendly and nice to chat to; he was also nice enough to upgrade me to a larger private cabin that was available at the time, which I really appreciated. Breakfast was tasty and I thought the dining room was cosy with a TV and overlooking the garden. Comfortable mattress. Overall, great value!
