How guest reviews work
Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We use a weighted review system which means that the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
- Politically sensitive comments
- Promotional content
- Illegal activities
- Personal or sensitive information (e.g. emails, phone numbers or credit card info)
- Swear words, sexual references, hate speech, discriminatory remarks, threats, or references to violence
- Spam and fake content
- Animal cruelty
- Impersonation (e.g. if the writer is claiming to be someone else)
- Any violation of our review guidelines.
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
Guidelines and standards for Reviews
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

Verified reviewThe setting is really charming, across the rural landscape of Hartland. The hut is charming, but duck if you are tall. This is an adventure experience, reliving camping out as a youngster. And as a 75 year old I found it immensely enjoyable. Our hosts, Rickie and Laura, were very helpful in the lead up to and during our stay.
The whole experience was very enjoyable.

Verified reviewHut as stated is in its own meadow and isolated - like you in a meadow on a hill with great views (and no phone signal). Very cool to ‘get away from it all’… It is well kept, furnished, comfortable and very cosy with external loo and shower (shower runs on the hot side). Great external area with outdoor stoves, bbq and fire bowl. There are good pubs nearby with sandy beaches a short drive away near Bude or up towards Bideford. You can walk directly to Speke’s Mill beach / waterfall / costal path etc from the Hut for more rugged terrain. If you have dogs they will absolutely love the area and adventure. I did too!
Absolutely nothing.

Verified reviewCampfire/sunset in a lovely natural area. The hut is really nice. Hosts brilliant, will provide info and provisions before you arrive. Lucky enough to get a fresh loaf on the house Sunday morning. Highly recommend to all.
If I am going to picky, private meadow was quite overgrown.

Verified reviewIt’s the first time we have ever stayed in a Shepherds Hut so I was a little nervous at first and to be fair I booked it thinking our younger dog would love it the most but we all loved it. It was peaceful and our two dogs enjoyed it thoroughly. Our younger dog Archie had the time of his life. I think he is quite sad coming back to his little city garden. Ritchie was a lovely host and we so enjoyed the Farmers Arms recommendation - our meal there was fabulous.
Minor gripes only - would be nice if the blind on the front door was attached to the door rather than the wall so nightly loo breaks were easier rather than climbing under the blind. The shower gets hot very quickly even turning it down to minimum gas after starting so I had a lot of fiddling going from boiling to cold to boiling to cold. We don’t think we found the right pond as there was a tiny one straight on the walk but a bigger one on Google maps which we couldn’t find so not sure if it was the bigger one whether it could be signposted further along the trail. Thank you for a lovely stay - we hope to be back!

Verified reviewIt was a peaceful location with a countryside view. The sheppie was a lovely light space, a comfortable mattress, just lovely and natural .. out side shower and loo, but enclosed and almost joined to the hut. Wood burner made it cosy , dbl doors to outside and great outdoor cooking facilities .

Verified reviewThis is the perfect place for a cozy getaway with a partner or a pet or both! The Shepherds hut is located in a corner of a large field with amazing views and a fenced area where your dog can roam safely. Inside is compact and cozy with the basic facilities you need to make your own meals, but you are also not far from Bude which is overflowing with options. However, if you are staying in this delightful location, my advice is to bring some food, a couple of bottles of wine and settle in to enjoy rural tranquility at its best.
Thanks for a wonderful review. We’re glad you enjoyed your stay!

Verified reviewThe set up is amazing, very well thought through. No other shepherds huts, just yourselves! The inner meadow is enclosed so the dog had an absolute birthday romping in the grass.. we could just see her ears bouncing about and a tail wagging ferociously! I loved the feeling of being off grid although there was ample gas and electric. I was aware there was no WiFi which was part of the plan to get my teenager off their mobile and into a good book instead. The views are just stunning, real tranquility. The hosts were lovely.. they were at the end of the phone if needed but left you to it completely, they obviously lived near by but you couldn’t see any other properties from the hut.. total peace and quiet. The bed was also very comfortable.
Nothing at all.
