How guest reviews work
Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We use a weighted review system which means that the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
- Politically sensitive comments
- Promotional content
- Illegal activities
- Personal or sensitive information (e.g. emails, phone numbers or credit card info)
- Swear words, sexual references, hate speech, discriminatory remarks, threats, or references to violence
- Spam and fake content
- Animal cruelty
- Impersonation (e.g. if the writer is claiming to be someone else)
- Any violation of our review guidelines.
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
Guidelines and standards for Reviews
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.

Very run down room, disappointing for a 4* hotel and the price paid. Can be very noisy if facing towards the function rooms (no availability to move during our stay).

Verified reviewThey never informed us that a wedding was taking place. The loud music was unbearable. At 1am my husband had to dress and complaint at the reception however nothing happened. Again he went again around 1:30am. We just couldn’t sleep and loud music continued later on, ruining our whole experience. Not being able to rest for the activity we had next day. Management was dreadful and even requesting the steps to issue a formal complaint and refund of our awful stay, we never received the call from the manager. I urge you to mediate with this hotel to issue us the refund.

Verified reviewUsed to visit Sketchley regularly in the past but stopped for a while as standards dropped. Thrilled to see how much Sketchley has since improved! Beautiful refurb since last visit. Lovely room as always. Brilliant breakfast service and food. Dinner was great. Mostly excellent staff. Spa and pool absolutely brilliant with lots of safety mats and all facilities working well. Really pleased to see the leisure decor refreshed and that the floor of the pool on the once deep end has now been raised. This is very good for safety as there is no lifeguard.
Odd experience with a waitress who took AGES to bring out our desserts and wouldn't tell us why LOL. The manager came to our table, was extremely apologetic and kindly offered us a refund. The lift didn't work but they did offer to help us with our luggage, which we appreciated. The bathroom was clean but had a damp smell of unknown origin.The grout on the outside of the shower base needs to be redone as it looked mouldy. And the seal along the bottom outside of the sink lifted, so water was leaking out.

Verified reviewThe spa was a real highlight. The exercise class was fantastic! The room was a great size , clean and comfortable. The water and biscuits in the room were a nice touch.
No shower gel in the bathroom but not the end of the world as I luckily packed my own

Verified reviewAll the staff from start to finish were extremely attentive. Clare in the restaurant went above and beyond to make sure allergens were checked for my daughter throughout our stay. The childrens cheque book was a really good idea.
The Spa times for 14-16 year olds could be a little longer than the standard kids usage times even just an hour longer to allow more time to use facilities throughout a stay.

From the moment we arrived, the staff made us feel welcome and were incredibly child-friendly, which meant so much to us as parents traveling with three kids. The room was spacious, comfortable, and peaceful, providing plenty of space for all five of us to relax and enjoy our time together. The amenities were excellent, and everything we needed was right at our fingertips. The food was absolutely delicious, with a variety that satisfied both adults and children. What touched us most was the thoughtful gesture of complimentary food and drinks for our kids—it made them feel extra special and added a lovely personal touch to our stay. We left with happy hearts and wonderful memories, and we’re already looking forward to coming back. This hotel is truly a perfect choice for families!

Over whelming smell of damp in our room, room was clean however shabby. Tile lifted on the floor in bathroom missing grout in areas. Dangerous for our 4 year old daughter as some of the tiles were sharp when getting out the bath. Could do with a lick of paint. Marks on the walls in the room. Restaurant was over priced food was dry and not of a great quality

The health spa was good value for money however it did need some tax with broken stairs in the pool and some areas around the pool needed some cleaning
