Great breakfast, adequate parking, although it feels remote it’s a short drive to almost everything. Rooms were dated but adequate. Owners were very friendly, offered ideas.

Well, the amenities were like from the 50's. The bed too narrow for two. No fridge (but the VERY helpful staff organized a styrofoam box with ice). It would be nice if the restaurant and bar were still operational.

The hotel itself is a bit dated with an old and closed restaurant and pub which gives the feeling that the hotel has seen better days.

The hotel staff was nice and welcoming, the chamber was clean and comfortable. There was a parking lot in the back and the breakfast was ok.

One of the reasons we chose this place was because it was advertised that there was a restaurant. The restaurant was closed! Websites etc should be kept up to date with information on the property.

There was no onsight dinning other than breakfast.

The location was perfect. The facilities were clean and staff was exceptional. We had an issue with one of our rooms. The staff quickly resolved the issue and privided us another room. In addition they refunded one of our nights stay. There is a free breakfast in the morning. However, at the time of our stay there was no dinner service. Overall, a very pleasant stay.

Didn't know there would be stairs; not a problem for us but could be for some. Also - room darkening shades would have been appreciated. The sun comes up early in May!

Dounby is a bit remote from any restaurants so we did have to drive 10-15 minutes to the Standing Stones Hotel for dinner. The Smithfield is equipped with a restaurant and public bar however we were informed it has been closed due to lack of staffing.

Generous and Comfortable room with newer furnishings. Best shower in Scotland so far….great water pressure and easy to regulate the temperature. We even had a walk in closet in room #10. Ivy and her daughter were welcoming hosts and we were sorry to arrive later than anticipated. Great full Scottish breakfast with fruits, yogurt, cereal and filtered coffee too! And nice guests and conversation! An Asda Express is across the street if you need anything.

Breakfast was excellent. A hearty breakfast that set us up for the day. Staff were very customer centric provided great service and advice on local environment and tourist spots. Guest lounge was an added bonus, providing the opportunity to unwind and socialise. Would happily recommend this establishment.

Rm 1 right side twin bed had an unusual hard point in mattress.

Great hostess & breakfast. Provided for late entry due to delayed flight and bad weather. Good advice regarding local travel and historic sites.
