Read more– opens a dialog boxEach review score is between 1 and 10. To get the overall score you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of them. We use a weighted review system, which means the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. Guests can also give separate “subscores” in crucial areas like location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value, and free Wifi. Note that guests submit their subscores and overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an accommodation that you booked through our platform if you stayed there, or if you got to the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialize in detecting fake reviews submitted to our platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team so that our fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we'd publish every review we get, positive and negative. However, we won’t display any reviews that include or refer to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out. We may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old, or if the accommodation has a change of ownership.
An accommodation can reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (e.g. language, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). You can sort and/or filter them by time of year, review score, and more.
Sometimes we show external review scores from other well-known travel websites, but make it clear when we do this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly, without limiting expression or strong opinions. They're also applicable regardless of the comment's tone.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include hate speech, discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, or the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and other similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties, and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options might be available (by type of traveler, by score, etc...).

United KingdomThree rooms are available, but the meals room can only handle two couples at a time which means you are on a bit an assigned schedule. While the owners will try to fit in with your needs; you will have an assigned time for breakfast. We were able to make that work, but for some others that may not be the case. It's not that we didn't like it; it's more that we were a bit surprised.
This delightful BnB is well located. An easy walk to the town; even for lazy-bones like me! The couple who run the property are delightful. Friendly and informative. They have a lovely pooch: Hamish who makes sure you are well cared for. Off-street parking is directly in front; and Google maps took us to exactly the right spot; making arrival easy. All the rooms are upstairs. Each is different. Ours for instance, had the handwashing basin in the room and not in the ensuite. The furniture is tasteful and comfortable.

New ZealandThe bathroom fan turns itself on at random times of the day and night, which woke me up. It was difficult to find the house because it doesn't have a street number and Google maps didn't show its location. It would be good if guests were told it was across the road from a museum, as that is a good landmark to find the house by.
The breakfast was lovely - a cooked breakfast menu as well as cereals, juice and hot drinks, served by the host. We liked the central location of Windermere to explore the Lake District. The host was friendly, welcoming and helpful. The house is set in a beautiful garden, with a stream and a gorgeous waterfall one can sit and enjoy. We appreciated having a kettle and tea and coffee making supplies in our room.

United KingdomNothing - all was excellent.
The cottage was an excellent choice, the room was good, breakfast was outstanding and the grounds, including waterfall were beautiful. To top it off, Adrian had a good supply of honey for sale which was infused and extremely tasty. An outstanding stay and we will definitely be back.

Stockghyll cottage is an excellent place to stay to explore the beautiful lake district. Within 10 minutes walk to the centre of bowness on windermere Stockghyll cottage has 3 rooms. we stayed in room 2, the larger double room, although not exactly large it was well equipped with a double bed shower, a small t.v wardrobe, and bedside draws kettle with coffee and tea . Heather and Adrian, the hosts are very welcoming and always happy to help The breakfast is excellent offering cerals fruit, fresh juice, and full English breakfast and lighter options like scrambled or poached eggs on toast tea coffee home made preserves jams marmalaid honey . Ample on-site car parking And just across the road from the windermere Museum and access to Lake windermere We also want to share a secret with you, but don't tell everyone At the rear of the property, there's a bench overlooking a beautiful waterfall ,we would return after our day's adventure and sit out on the bench with a nice bottle of wine perfect way to end the day. United KingdomFor info and my opinion only - rooms are upstairs and not the largest so if you need an accessible property, this might not be the B&B for you.
A B&B that delivers what you would expect - a clean / comfortable room and a well cooked breakfast, with choices available. Approachable owner, car parking available and the 5/10min walk into Bowness is along a flat road with a decent pavement.

United KingdomWhile the room was comfortable, a little refresh on the decor would be nice, as there was some peeling wallpaper. But that's just nitpicking – we had a wonderful time.
Our stay at Stockghyll Cottage in Bowness-on-Windermere was simply brilliant. The cottage itself was charming and comfortable, and the breakfast each morning was absolutely delicious – a great way to start the day! What really made our trip special was the incredible hospitality of the owners. They were so friendly and went above and beyond to help us plan our days, offering fantastic suggestions for places to visit and eat. The views from the cottage were breathtaking and added to the overall magical experience of the Lake District. We would definitely stay here again!
