Each review score is between 1 and 10. To get the overall score you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of them. We use a weighted review system, which means the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. Guests can also give separate “subscores” in crucial areas like location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value, and free Wifi. Note that guests submit their subscores and overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an accommodation that you booked through our platform if you stayed there, or if you got to the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialize in detecting fake reviews submitted to our platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team so that our fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we'd publish every review we get, positive and negative. However, we won’t display any reviews that include or refer to (among other things):
- Politically sensitive comments
- Promotional content
- Illegal activities
- Personal or sensitive info (e.g. emails, phone numbers, credit card info)
- Swear words, sexual references, hate speech, discriminatory remarks, threats, or references to violence
- Spam and fake content
- Animal cruelty
- Impersonation (i.e. if the writer is claiming to be someone else)
- Any violation of our review guidelines.
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out. We may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old, or if the accommodation has a change of ownership.
An accommodation can reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (e.g. language, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). You can sort and/or filter them by time of year, review score, and more.
Sometimes we show external review scores from other well-known travel websites, but make it clear when we do this.
Guidelines and Standards for Reviews

Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. We arrived there in the evening, already dark. It took some efforts to find the house, with help of a friendly neighbour. Apparently the house number was blocked by a trash bin.
The house was very cozy. It gave a feeling of being at home. The owners were very attentive. I'd totally recommend this place.

Labels on the cooker are faded, so we couldn't read them
Whole house with books, toys, games, washing machine, dryer, and a third bedroom. The elf on the shelf was a very exciting touch for my 5yo.

I loved the at-home feel! Every part of the house, from the comfortable bed and furniture, to the excellent bathroom, to the kitchen and appliances, to the lovely backyard, was excellent. Very peaceful and relaxing. We made many lovely memories!

The heating control is quite complicated. This isn't a "dislike" as such, but it was hard to get the heat level just right, and not either too hot or not warm enough.
The hosts are very responsive to questions, and everything was well organised. You will need a car to reach it from Stornoway, and that is part of its charm. Do be sure to call into Tesco in Stornoway before going there as there are few places to buy food for breakfast (but there is tea and coffee at the house). The wifi connection is good, but away from the house you may not be able to get a phone connection (which stopped us from telling the owners we had checked out for a couple of hours) so do all your communication in the house over the wifi. There is a beautiful beach near the house and many more a short drive away.

Unfortunately, we were unable to work the shower out but was a lovely hot bath. Heating a little bit of a challenge but warmed up quickly when on. Maybe a few instructions on the wall will help. But a great stay.

Not many plug sockets in bedrooms or living room. No other negatives except we couldn't find a few essentials (tea towels, washing up liquid, toilet roll). The hosts did say to contact them if we needed anything but as we were only there one night and mainly just to sleep, we didn't feel it necessary. I've no doubt that if we had contacted them, they would have assisted..
Very spacious, warm, nice quiet surroundings, perfect for our needs for a nights stay. Beds were so comfortable! Shower was great. Loved the addition of cosy blankets in the living room and bedrooms. Hosts were very responsive and helpful. We would stay again.

Nice honest accommodation with everything you need, and none of the stuff you don't. A good central location for touring Lewis and Harris, and a quiet, comfortable place to stay.

Located only a 20min drive from Stornoway. Great communication with owners for access, which is via a lockbox so wasn't an issue arriving on the 8pm ferry. Kitchen had microwave, oven/stovetop and washing machine/dryer. Fantastic for our 3 night stay. Comfortable house for our visit to the Island.

Bobbly sheets on the bed in the back room.
The house had everything we needed, although there was no grill pan or teapot.
