How guest reviews work
Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We use a weighted review system which means that the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
- Politically sensitive comments
- Promotional content
- Illegal activities
- Personal or sensitive information (e.g. emails, phone numbers or credit card info)
- Swear words, sexual references, hate speech, discriminatory remarks, threats, or references to violence
- Spam and fake content
- Animal cruelty
- Impersonation (e.g. if the writer is claiming to be someone else)
- Any violation of our review guidelines.
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
Guidelines and standards for Reviews
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

Verified reviewThe rooms are situated above the pub but it’s not noisy. We went on a Monday night when the live music & bingo were on. The location is great, having stayed in Windermere multiple times over the years it’s very central, with the parking about a 2 minute walk from the pub. The room was gorgeous, we had a twin room with a fabulous view of Windermere from it. All the staff were exceptional. Really friendly, so helpful, honestly couldn’t fault any of the service. They helped us carrying out bags up & said they would’ve helped us back down with them if we’d have asked which I thought was a kind touch. We stayed & played bingo (which I’ve never done before.) The chap hosting it was brilliant & put up with my multiple questions about it! Also the live music was absolutely wonderful - these were both on a Monday night. Another added bonus which we didn’t realise if you get a discount (think it’s 10%) off all food & drinks there. We had our lunch & dinner there, which were delicious, as were the cocktails! 100% recommend this place & I would definitely stay again - perfect all round!
There was a weird loud plumbing / pipes sound which went on all evening until about 10pm / 10.30pm. We couldn’t work out where it was coming from but it stopped before we went to bed.

All very compact but on the whole, it just did the trick. Would have like it better if breakfast could have been provided.

Verified reviewGreat location in the middle of Bowness an easy walk to the lakeside and all the amenities. A very well run pub can be busy but as it is spread over two floors easy to find a quiet spot if wished. Plenty of choice of drinks a good and varied food menu of better than usual pub fare make the Albert a winner. We had a room at the front on the second floor which was a good size very clean and well appointed the en-suite was clean and of a good standard. As it was on the second floor there no noise from either the bars below or the outside road. The only negative was no wardrobe only hangers on the back of the door but that’s just me being picky. The staff are pleasant approachable and ready to help which made for a comfortable all round experience which I would not hesitate to repeat . Well done the Albert.

Verified reviewThe location was excellent. Food lovely. Staff lovely.
Too noisy, there was a stag and hen weekend. Stags were shouting at 3am in the morning. We were over the outside area could smell cigarette smoke in bedroom. Builders were there making noise in the morning we were not aware this was going to happen. Location lovely, would stay again but only in a school term when it would be quieter and in the week Monday to Friday. Maybe we will try Keswick next. Seating area could have been cleaner.

Verified review- clean and comfy room - friendly staff - great location - not super expensive for central bowness
- Shower didn’t drain properly so was probably a little clogged. - blind was broken and inconvenient to open and close. - quite loud at night. None of these really impacted our stay though, we still had a lovely time.

We were unaware till we arrived that there was going to be a dj on but thought as we were on the 2nd floor we'd be OK. We weren't. DJ played till midnight and then we noticed how noisy the plumbing was. I'm sure it a great place for some people but not us!

Verified reviewFor many years before Covid I often stayed at the Albert for a couple of nights once or twice a year. They used to serve a 'complimentary' breakfast which was excellent but it was explained by the lovely staff member that this was no longer a practical option. The ensuite rooms were always spotless, comfortable and equipped with toiletries, a decent hairdryer and a plentiful supply of tea, coffee, hot chocolate ( hot chocolate sadly missing from most accommodation these days) and biscuits. The room I had this time, one that I have stayed in on many occasions before, had been decorated since my last stay and was just as comfortable as I remembered it and smarter. There was also an iron and ironing board. The Albert holds an exceptional position in Bowness for proximity to Lake Windermere, shops, restaurants, the Old Laundry Theatre, boats and buses in case you want to visit other the towns in the area. The railway station in Windermere is easily accessible by bus and a decent downhill walk to the Albert. The large car park on Rayrigg Road is just yards (or metres) away. I have always enjoyed at least one evening meal here during my stay and, if just visiting Bowness for the day, I usually have a lunchtime meal. The hard-working staff members are friendly and helpful. Although I can't afford to stay as often as I would like to these days, the prices for accommodation, food and drink are typical of prices in the area. I highly recommend the Albert.
I know that I am in a minority and regarded as a freak by many but, apart from being allergic to them, I don't like dogs. There you go, I've said it! String me up! Like most places, the Albert is 'dog friendly'. If you want to eat without dogs sniffing and jumping around, the upstairs is designated a dog free area so you can escape to enjoy your meal there - this isn't a comfort offered by many pubs. The reason I have stopped short of making this a 5* review is that when I had my evening meal, a party of four arrived with two less than fragrant dogs, one of which was allowed to jump up and devour crumbs from the table next to mine. This is not the fault of the management of the pub but, on the table to my right, a party of five had a hairy though well behaved dog which was stroked, fondled and generally fussed over by one of the waitresses. Minutes later I saw her bringing out meals to other diners. There was surely no time to scrub her hands and, even so, dog hairs could easily have passed from the dog to her clothing. I realise that I should have eaten my meal upstairs and recommend that fellow Cruellas do likewise.
