Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We use a weighted review system which means that the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

United KingdomShower pressure was poor but understand this is an old building. Shower cubicle needs re sealing re mould and a repaint in the shower room.
Friendly staff, pub meals and breakfast were excellent. Great pub overlooking the estuary. Handy for walking Dalbeattie forest. We stayed in room 2 which had excellent views.

United KingdomSome of the staff made us feel uncomfortable, rather abrupt, but some were very nice.
Breakfasts were good, steak pie was excellent, half pint of potted prawns were hard work and a waste of money - a joke.

United StatesThe entry doors are dangerous !! Getting my 91 year old sister safely in and out of the entrance was extremely difficult . The single bed in room 8 is also a nightmare !!You can feel the metal rings with your fingertips , no need to even lay on the bed . Having just made an extremely long flight from California I was looking forward to a comfortable nights sleep …. Well that didn’t happen ! The shower in the bathroom is a joke ! Please have one of your staff stay overnight and test the bed and the shower . You will understand why nobody would encourage their friends to stay at your hotel . My sister probably said it best …. You’re a pub with rooms . Yes your food is delicious but I’m not sure you will have repeat customers . Cheers … Liz McDougall

United KingdomRoom 1 no hot water in shower. When we complained we were given key to another room to use the shower. Not ideal having to go along the corridor with my shower stuff but better than nothing! Also single bed blocked the wardrobe and the radiator
Lovely place. Staff very friendly and hard working. Food was great... tasty, freshly cooked and hot. Lovely view from bedroom window

United KingdomThe plumbing and bathrooms really let the hotel down. Our shower was not much more than a trickle. The family room, which our daughter and 2 young grandchildren stayed in, had no water coming out of the bath taps or shower. They had to climb a flight of stairs to use our less than adequate shower, which was very inconvenient.
The views and food were great. Rooms were comfortable and staff friendly.

United KingdomHotel is tired and could do with a makeover We had a triple room and single bed was in front of the wardrobe which meant we couldn’t use it and had to leave our clothes in the suitcase and on the spare bed. The shower didn’t work and we couldn't have a Shower on the first morning. We had to use the shower in another room during our stay. Not ideal. Towel rail was loose and fell off. Only one bedside lamp which provided very little light.
Location and food both breakfast in the restaurant were first class. Staff were lovely and very helpful. Good quality bedding and comfortable bed.

United KingdomA minor point but could be a health and safety issue: we were on the second floor and the lighting on both sets of stairs could/ should be brighter. Both of us missed the 'extra'step' at the foot of the second tier of steps when descending and I fell on the first floor half step in the corridor which, to be fair, is edged in white. Both could cause serious injury to someone who was more frail. Seems churlish to mention following a delightful short stay, but 'Hey ho'.
Location superb as was our reception and the ease, sociability and service of all the staff. All meals were first rate, our room had a lovely view west over the estuary, was small, but had a good sized bathroom and all areas were beautifully clean. Many thanks to all concerned.

United KingdomIt is a little dated, but that does seem to add to the charm. But in saying that the bedrooms do need to be updated and better showers are needed. But it certainly wouldn’t put me off going again, and looking to stay again later in the year.
Been coming for a few years, beautiful part of the country! The Anchor is lovely, great food and friendly staff. Our room was very comfortable, linen clean and good quality as were the towels big and fluffy.
