Historic hotel with accompanying quirks, centrally located to the city sights.

The room is located above the restaurant, so there is activity and noise late into the night, then again starting at 0530. The shower/tub drain is very slow. There are areas of black mold or mildew in the hallway. It is a very old building with no lift, a lot of stairs, and tight corners, so not the best option for a traveler with large or multiple pieces of luggage. Plus it could use a bit more TLC in some places.

Tobias Elkins. The room is spacious and clean with nice decor. The bed is comfortable, and hypoallergenic bedding was provided as requested. There are multiple windows which can be opened to keep a comfortable temperature, plus a fan is available. There are adequate accessible outlets. The location is prime to see the city on foot. The staff is amazing! They are extremely friendly and courteous, going above and beyond to be helpful.

Consider an electric shower as the hot water took a considerable time to reach temeperature, which I completely understand given the origins and layout of the hotel. It was not a deal breaker for us as we were not in a rush to be anywhere and once we knew it required more time to build up temperature we took that into account. Other than that the stay was lovely and relaxing. We had everything we needed like iron and Ironing board, complimentary water each day, tea & coffee with cookies and efficient room refresh service.

Room was a substantial suite with a fabulous large bed, nice bathroom and comfortable lounge area. It was lovely and quiet and had a really nice old world charm and character.

An excellent, large room. Large bathroom with bath and shower. Hotel conveniently situated in the centre of Guildford. Hotel full of charm and character and very polite hotel staff.

It was hot, with large windows and a western exposure. There was a non-working air conditioner and we were told that there was no air-conditioning available in the hotel. The hotel is a bit of a warren, with short and long stairs on long hallways leading to rooms.

The location in the center of Guildford. Our room was clean and comfortable. The staff, particularly Suman, were very helpful and pleasant.

No parking, but just use local car parks or parking app. Sofa bed was very firm. Could do with a topper.

I love this hotel. So old and charming but also very comfortable. I have always had rooms towards the rear of the property and have not been bothered by street noise. This time we stayed in Emma Sclater (a suite) which was actually 2 rooms with a bathroom between them. Large sofabed in the lounge and a massive comfy super king in the bedroom. Staff are so friendly and helpful.

The decor was a bit tired and the front rooms are beautiful but windows are single glazed and so you hear the night revellers - so don’t sleep at the front of the building if you’re a light sleeper

Great old building the front bedrooms have lots of features such as 4 poster beds and beamed ceilings.

This may appear pernickety, but for a 4 star hotel, the loo paper is very poor quality.

Very comfortable bed, room and facilities. Friendly, polite and professional staff. Being taken to one's room is, although basic good manners, a very welcome nice touch A very quiet night's sleep. Having stayed in May, too, very consistent with the service.
