Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We use a weighted review system which means that the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

United KingdomThe window in the shower room compromised my privacy. Next to the sink, my shower room - which looked out over the glass atrium of an internal courtyard, with windows opposite - had a multi-paned sash window opening only at the bottom, with frosted glass in each of the panes. However, one pane had a clear glass panel at crutch level and was situated right next to the basin and in direct line with the toilet! Somebody had previously attempted to obscure this clear pane with several strips of masking tape, but these strips were obviously old, and were falling off! I attempted to stick them back on to obscure any sight line into my shower room, but was unsuccessful, and one strip fell off completely. This made me feel extremely vulnerable given the windows opposite, even though they appeared to have internal wooden slatted blinds that were shut, and I felt obliged to make a point of not using the bathroom with the light on, and ensuring that I was wearing something at all times while in line with this clear pane of glass. I have suggested to the Manager of the Bar Convent Guest House, James, that one can obtain frosted sticky back plastic from the internet which can be cut to size and applied easily to obscure glass. It is really unacceptable that guests staying in this particular room have reason to fear that their privacy is compromised by this clear pane of glass, and low-opening sash window, while using its en-suite shower room. The hanging space of the wardrobe was rather too short for women’s dresses. I also found the lift, which rattled and juddered as it ascended and descended, and had an arm chair in it (to try to stabilise it, perhaps?) was rather alarming!
I liked almost everything EXCEPT the en-suite shower room window and lift. The single room I had (St Aelred?) was blissfully quiet, despite my having the windows open given the summer temperatures and the guest house being on a busy main road (although my room did face the other way). The included continental breakfast was superb, with choices not only of home-made granola, but also cheese, yoghurt, gluten-free cereals, crumpets, toast, croissants, grapefruit segments and - best of all - summer fruit salad of strawberries, blackcurrants, raspberries, blackberries, etc, plus two good cups of coffee or tea, and the option of dairy-free milk. Near the very comfortable room, there was a well-equipped small self-catering kitchen for simple ad hoc meals, with a microwave, crockery, cutlery, as well as a washing machine, dryer, iron and ironing board. But the fridge was rather on the tiny side if more than a very few people wish to take advantage of its storage. The dining facilities and tranquil garden were also wonderful. The cotton bedlinen and two pillows provided were most welcome, and the shower was a comfortable size.

JapanI had a pleasant stay at the Bar Convent. The room was clean and tastefully decorated. Staff were kind and friendly. It’s close to both the station and the city center but it’s quiet at night. I highly recommend visiting its exhibition too. Learning about the history of the building made my trip to York more special. I hope to come back here on another occasion.

Amazing place to stay right in city centre and easy walk into the heart if the city or scenic walk along the city walls towards the minster! I loved that there was a self catering space as ive never seen this before in a hotel and it meant i saved a lot of money not eating out every night!

CanadaAlways too expensive in this country... I did not expect to pay as much as I did. Also, the booking said breakfast is included and had mentioned English breakfast somewhere. But of course in the morning the lady told me she has us down for Continental breakfast. It wasn't too bad for Continental, but we were looking forward to the English breakfast. We paid another £8 each to get that.
Lovely staff The room was very clean The heritage building was lovely to walk around, the history that had happened there could be felt in every corner It has a beautiful garden, very serene I also loved that we had control of the AC in our room The shower water was warm and lovely For the old building the facilities were very clean, comfortable and well-renovated

United KingdomOur room was on 2 floors, with the shower room and separate toilet down a flight of stairs, a potential hazard in the night. The road into the city was rather run down. I wouldn't feel very safe walking along this road alone on a dark night.
Only a few minutes walk from the station. Air conditioning in the bedroom. Lift to all floors. Beautiful secluded peaceful garden. Good choice for continental breakfast. Secure luggage store. Easy 15 min walk into the city centre. Hop on hop off bus stop is nearby.

United KingdomNo children's menu. Although the lovely waitress said 'we'll do fish fingers and chips for them.Their meals we're lovely, but we were charged adult price! Continental breakfast was excellent , served in the beautiful dining room. However, cooked breakfast extra charge. This was not made clear on booking.I was satisfied with my Continental, but think greater clarification needed .
As already stated it was an excellent stay and highly recommend.

SpainThere was a device below the window that was very noisy so it was difficult to sleep at night. On the other hand, the Wi-Fi signal was very weak.
The location of the guest house was excellent, just a stone throw from the train station. The room was big and comfortable and the breakfast was very good.
