Ancient but comfortable and full of features. Perfectly situated.

The location was excellent, the hotel was full of charm, the staff were very helpful, the atmosphere was brilliant (the pub always seemed to be busy with lots of regulars)

Our room overlooked the town square and each night at 2am we were woken by the noise from a large group of people leaving a pub/club or waiting for taxis (unsure of the reason)

The Bear Hotel is a venerable old pub & hotel facing the market square in Devizes, and it's got plenty of character. The room was very spacious and the amenities were far better than you usually get at pub hotels. We also enjoyed the hot breakfast included, and had dinner at the pub downstairs. Staff was helpful and friendly, and parking was right behind the hotel, so very handy.

The staff were great, the food was excellent with good vegetarian options.

The initial room we were allocated was in very poor condition. The headboards on the beds were stained and dirty. The room was not particularly clean and depressing. We complained and the staff were very helpful and managed to find another room that had been refurbished which was fine.

Great location on the square in Devizes. Staff were really helpful and the food was very nice. Room was basic but clean and tidy. Similarly the bathroom was basic but it was clean and the shower worked well. Free parking round the back a really bonus too! For a single Friday night it was cheaper than the local Travelodge AND included breakfast so very pleased.

Only thing that didn’t work for me was the Wi-Fi which probably needs looking at. Obviously a third party provider but it wouldn’t allow registration.

The bed. Very comfortable. The breakfast was good, maybe a better choice of pastries.

Excellent location and what a fantastic old building full of character if only the walls could tell their story! Breakfast was lovely and included in the room price. Free parking was a bonus with plenty of spaces but remember to register at reception.

Very old decor but part of the charm. Everything shuts down on a Sunday afternoon no food after 4 and areas cordoned off at night.

Room at front noisy on a hot night…revellers and car alarms, no advance warning about road closure

From the moment we checked to the moment we checked out the staff were warm and greeting. Such a friendly atmosphere eight of us were made to feel welcome. The building is old this only adds to the atmosphere. Creaking floor boards etc. Food was excellent and well priced. Would we stay again? Absolutely.

My wife and I had a room overlooking the Main Street. We sleep with the windows open and there was a lot of street noise and talking. But you cannot blame the hotel for this.

Location was perfect, staff friendly and helpful

Room is in terrible state, curtains ripped,walls stained and bed very uncomfortable,, person cooking breakfast needs a lesson in cooking eggs and to actually put butter on your toast before eggs,, service at breakfasts was to fast, just started eating cereal and breakfast comes out with toast, it had to go back because it was all cold,,,,

Considering there had been a water leak within the hotel due to the gutters .claire was amazing . Everyone in the hotel still had food cooked and drinks served with a smile. Well done the bear team your all amazing

Great location in the heart of devizes. Hotel is steeped in history. Staff friendly & welcoming.

Mattress was hard. Shower was very hot and I couldn't work out how to cool it down, everything I was trying was making it hotter or turn off.

Love the olde worlde ambience!

Great cuisine but expensive

Central location with free parking. Friendly staff- nice breakfast- and reasonably priced bar.

Good value for the price. Room had all the facilities we needed. Particularly loved the tea tray with biscuits and friendly staff. The cooked breakfast was yummy too and we appreciated the flexibility to serve us a little after 10 in the bar as we had done Parkrun.

Room was tired and windows were old and single glazed so it was quite noisy from neighbouring pubs.
