How guest reviews work
Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We use a weighted review system which means that the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
- Politically sensitive comments
- Promotional content
- Illegal activities
- Personal or sensitive information (e.g. emails, phone numbers or credit card info)
- Swear words, sexual references, hate speech, discriminatory remarks, threats, or references to violence
- Spam and fake content
- Animal cruelty
- Impersonation (e.g. if the writer is claiming to be someone else)
- Any violation of our review guidelines.
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
Guidelines and standards for Reviews
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

Verified reviewHosts were very friendly and gave lots of local hints and tips, places to visits, restaurants etc. Room was small but cosy. Nice touch with the sherry in the room upon arrival. Breakfast was hot, fresh and served promptly. Parking onsite was useful, plenty of space on street to park too if required.
Found it very noisy as the room above were constantly walking around and the floorboards were very loud. Bathroom was very small. Quite a few areas in the room were not clean.

Verified reviewBreakfast, friendliness and location.
The rain, but it's the Lakes! Beverley couldn't help with that.

Verified reviewClean and well presented, lovely hosts and nice service from their son during breakfast. Breakfast was really nice.
Although our room was lovely, the bathroom was too small and not functional for us. Two people could not stand in the bathroom and no room for toiletries in the shower. We stayed in room 2 which has the dark wood four poster and grey tartan print. Like others who have fed back, the improvements could be to offer a later breakfast until 10am and a later check-out option

Verified reviewWe had a lovely weekend stay at the Coppice. The location was a short stroll away from shops and restaurants and the breakfast was delicious. As a vegetarian I was happy with the choices. The staff went beyond to meet our extra requests - I requested a fan for our room due the warmer temperatures in the summer season. Initially was told there was none available for the smaller rooms downstairs but then was provided with one - thank you to Beverley and rest of the staff. A little miscommunication about the room servicing, but was all sorted and our room was cleaned as requested. We will be back!
Longer breakfast window would be good for relaxed mornings, and some herbal teas in the room (though the teas were provided on request). Fans for all rooms in the summer season (again this was kindly provided on request).

Verified reviewLocation was fantastic, halfway roughly between Windermere village and the lake, quality of meat on full breakfast was supreme, bathtub in room was such a novelty 💫 Very comfortable bed. Most of the staff were genuinely lovely✨
Sadly one of the hosts was extremely rude to me because she didn't like me moving a table in order to separate us from other guests for a bit of privacy at breakfast - this sadly ruined most of the morning of that day. It upset me a lot as it was such snappy response - I felt like a child been told off, certainly not what I'd expect from the host of a guesthouse, who seemed pleasant initially. I would have no problem if I'd have been asked politely if I could move the table back, this was not the case. I was sat in tears trying to eat my breakfast with my partner sat opposite feeling unable to do anything. Me and my partner had come away to feel relaxed as we've had a lot of stress in our lives recently, this was not what we received here at this time unfortunately. When I plucked up the courage to speak about this to her on the last day, she said she'd never know a guest do anything as 'extreme', it seemed like a very extreme reaction over such a thing. This is the first negative thing I've had to review because it really did ruin a part of our holiday and made us feel uncomfortable for the rest of the stay.

Verified reviewHost Beverely was very welcoming we arrived later than we thought due to horrendous traffic on the M6. Beverely rang us to check if we were ok, we thought this was a thoughtful gesture. Everything was explained to us, places to eat, boat trips, buses and taxi's. Brilliant!
We thought the 45min breakfast window could be made a little longer, maybe 8.30 to 9.30.

Verified reviewBeverley and the staff were warm and friendly. Our room was quiet and delightful, looking out onto a private garden. Breakfast was delicious and plentiful, in a beautiful room surrounded by colourful garden. Beverley gave us great tips for local places to eat and visit, including taking the Mountain Goat 10 Lakes tour, given our limited time here - which was fabulous. Our very short stay in the Lakes District was exceptional, thanks to her.
Nothing to do with The Coppice, but be prepared to walk Windermere to Bowness (lovely). The local bus company has increased their fares to GBP3.00 per trip - whether you travel 2 stops or 10 stops. As we had luggage, we caught the bus from Windermere station to The Coppice (2-3 mins) for GBP6.00 - for 2 or more people, a taxi is cheaper and friendlier.

Verified reviewEverything was above expectations on our stay at Coppice. Beverly greeted us warmly with all the information we needed for our stay, where to visit, eat, get buses etc. Our room was lovely, so tastefully decorated. Each morning we had a wide choice of breakfast prepared by chef and they were delicious. Location was great, walk from train station, buses outside the door and a 15 min walk to the lake, boats and Bowness. Her family, like Beverly were always there to help. Sherry was in the room to welcome us. Room had great tea and coffee making facilities. All in all it was a excellent oasis for 6 nights.
Beverly and her family have made sure that everything we needed was in the Coppice.

Verified reviewI really liked that we had two rooms , it felt very private, almost like having our own little home
I didn’t like that there wasn’t a mini fridge in the room , being August and very hot, we had nowhere to keep water bottles cold. Also, during our 4-day stay there was no room service. The listing mentioned an off-site health club, but we weren’t given any information about this.

The bathroom in the four poster bedroom was really small and by the time you had a shower everything was wet from the steam plus our room didn't get a refresh on the Sunday.

Verified reviewHomely Clean and central to everything x
We loved the property and the hosts were amazing x really helped us out.. the only downside was the guests above us spent a lot of time walking around their room from very early in the morning each day and being below them was disturbed by the floorboards etc that is not the hosts or the property’s fault though
