How guest reviews work
Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We use a weighted review system which means that the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
- Politically sensitive comments
- Promotional content
- Illegal activities
- Personal or sensitive information (e.g. emails, phone numbers or credit card info)
- Swear words, sexual references, hate speech, discriminatory remarks, threats, or references to violence
- Spam and fake content
- Animal cruelty
- Impersonation (e.g. if the writer is claiming to be someone else)
- Any violation of our review guidelines.
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
Guidelines and standards for Reviews
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

Verified reviewThe property was very central and close to all amenities. All areas of the hotel were very clean and well looked after. The cooked breakfast menu was excellent but the continental breakfast was limited.
The rooms were not air conditioned and the weather was exceptionally hot and fan in room food little too cool to down. Also leaving the windows open meant hearing the noise of the passing traffic.
Thank you for your review, we are happy that you found the hotel clean and you enjoyed your cooked breakfast, we are sorry that you thought the continental was limited, we will take that onboard. With the Cranleigh being old, we do not have air conditioning, but as you stated we do provide fans, we are sorry that this did not help in the hot weather, which we don't have very often in the Lakes, so you were very lucky. We hope to welcome you back in the future, The Cranleigh Team.

Verified reviewThe location is very good. Enjoyed the style of the suite we had (Seduction suite). Breakfast was good and the staff were nice.
The bathroom / toilet has glass windows and a glass door therefore you can see in it. Not what you want when going to the bathroom. The heat in the room was overwhelming and far too hot. The room needs either permanent AC or a portable AC unit. The room also had dead flies all over the dressing table. Very expensive for what it is.
Thank you for your review, we are happy to hear you enjoyed the style of suite that you booked. The bathroom door and window in the suite are frosted glass not clear. We are sorry you felt the room was far too hot, we do provide fans in all bedrooms, to help with the days where we have hot weather, which are few and far between. Apologies regarding the flies, but if you had let us know during your stay, we could have has the room recleaned for you. Once again, thank you for your review, The Cranleigh Team

Verified reviewBreakfast had a good selection with friendly staff serving. Room was comfortable but small and overlooked a noisy road. Ear plugs were provided in the room.
Car parking is charged on arrival if you book through a third party travel site which wasn’t clear when we booked.
Thank you for your review, we are happy to hear you enjoyed your breakfast, we are sorry to hear you found the room small and noisy. We do advertise on Booking.com that there is a £10.00 charge for parking, per stay, we are sorry to hear you thought this was unclear. We hope to see you again soon. The Cranleigh team

Verified reviewWe arrived to a very warm welcome. Managed to park right outside the door. Hotel is in a great location. Breakfasts were lovely especially the waffles and all staff we met were warm, friendly and incredibly helpful.
Not sure if we just had noisy neighbours or if the walls were a little thin but we could hear them talking, heard their TV over ours and heard their snoring at night.
Thank you for your kind review, we are happy to hear that you found our staff warm & friendly, and you enjoyed the Cranleigh breakfast, especially the waffles, these are always popular. We are sorry to hear you encountered noisy neighbour's, we hope that has not put you off staying with us again in the future. The Cranleigh Team.

Verified reviewLocation was good, decor, breakfast Discount at sister venues.
Paying extra for parking on top of the room price. No Storage in room. Main door left open until 10pm, didn’t feel like security was taken seriously. Superior Room ( very small compared to others)
Thank you for taking the time to write a review, we are happy to see that you enjoyed the discounts at our sister venues, the location and our decor. Regarding the charge for parking, this is advertised on all 3rd party sites as £10.00 per stay. The Main door is open until 10pm, as reception are there until that time, so there is no lack of security and we do take security issues seriously. All of our rooms can be viewed on the website, where you can see the room sizes. Once again thank you for your review.

Verified reviewWe’ve stayed here before and previously found it to be good value for money, which is why we chose to return. However, this time our experience was disappointing in a few areas. The lady at reception was not welcoming and came across as unaccommodating, particularly when we questioned the unexpected parking fee. We were unaware that parking charges had been introduced, and it would have been helpful to have this clearly communicated in advance. Additionally, we came for a relaxing break, so we were a bit surprised to be asked to select a specific time for breakfast, which added an element of scheduling we weren’t expecting during what was meant to be a laid-back stay.
Thank you for your review, we are sorry to hear you were disappointed in your stay. Regarding the charge for carparking, this is clear on booking.com website that there is a £10.00 charger per stay, we are sorry that you missed this when making your booking. The reason behind asking for a time for breakfast is to make a smoother service, so you are not having to wait for your breakfast if everyone comes down at once, as you have left your review anonymously we cannot see the last time you stayed with us, as we have been asking for times for about 3 years now, and the feedback has been positive, as you can pick a time that suits you. Once again thank you for your feedback. The Cranleigh Team

Verified reviewNot too much to be honest. Location was lush that’s it.
The room Room 13 was very disappointing small and Dingy, really not worth the money for what it is Apparently that was the superior King ( How on earth ) It’s very basic May as well stayed in a travel lodge for half the price Very disappointed Staff on front desk very abrupt and found rude when pre phoned a few days beforehand.
Thank you for your review, we are sad to hear that you were disappointed in the hotel, as you can see from all other reviews we do pride ourselves on our customer service, we apologies if we fell short on this occasion. All of our rooms are individually decorated, and of different sizes, which can be seen on our website. The Cranleigh Team

Verified reviewLocation was very good
Disappointed that a member of staff (hotel manager apparently)barged in our room without knocking for no reason at all i was partly naked and when I asked why at reception i was given a feeble excuse of checking guest numbers no apologies at all very disappointing especially when it's such a nice hotel and location I would of been happy with a genuine reason especially when she's the hotel manager and should know the room was occupied for 2 nights
Dear guest, Thank you very much for bringging this to our attention! I am really sorry about the intrusion in your room.Checking with the reception team they did apologise to you and explain that the housekeeping manager(head hk) was not intentionally going into your room.We do randomly checking stay overs to make sure our team are servicing the rooms properly.Maybe for the future please use the "do not disturb" sign, avoiding staff going into your room.Again I do belive that my team was very apologetic to you and not just once! We hope you will reconsider choosing us again in the future! Kind regards
