How guest reviews work
Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We use a weighted review system which means that the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
- Politically sensitive comments
- Promotional content
- Illegal activities
- Personal or sensitive information (e.g. emails, phone numbers or credit card info)
- Swear words, sexual references, hate speech, discriminatory remarks, threats, or references to violence
- Spam and fake content
- Animal cruelty
- Impersonation (e.g. if the writer is claiming to be someone else)
- Any violation of our review guidelines.
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
Guidelines and standards for Reviews
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

Verified reviewThe property is central within Chepstow and a short walk from a large car park. Check-in instructions were clear and delivered in good time. The fan in the room was useful, especially as the only windows were skylights and our request for additional loo paper was very quickly answered.
Whilst we had been warned about 'some noise' due to the property's central location that did not prepare us for the next door disco that went on well past 1 a.m. There are earplugs at the property but these are useless as a defence against heavy bass. The toilet was not fixed firmly to the floor, and the shower door was difficult to position so as not to allow water to escape. The bathroom door made a loud creak as it was closed, guaranteeing that you'd disturb your partner if going to the loo in the night. On top of that I banged my head at least 4 times on the sloping roof which I found very intrusive (and I'm < 6 feet tall). It does seem strange to call it a BnB when it doesn't do breakfast but the facilities for preparing your own did look OK. We preferred to walk down to the 'spoons.
Thank you for your review. The central location in the Town means that there is noise - we are waiting on a review of the Licence from the Council! I’m not sure why you banged your head as no one has raised this? I’ll check out the bathroom door and put some WD40 on if need be. There is a fully fitted kitchen and an M&S 1 minute away for you to make your breakfast if you want it? Or numerous cafes in the town.

Verified reviewLocation was very central, bathroom was a very good size.
Bedroom was a bit tight on space for 2 people. It’s called a b&b but actually it’s self catering with a shared kitchen area. There are stairs to enter the property, which is on the first floor, fine for us but others may like to know.

Verified reviewHandy location.
There was loud music playing from the moment we arrived until 1am, was really difficult to close the skylight and the door. The shower was really hard to regulate the temperature it was either scalding or freezing. Hardly got any sleep at all!
Hi, you say handy location but then give 2.5 score - it is the Town Centre so it will be noisy on the weekend. I have reported the comments to the Council regarding noise. A score of 1 I feel is very unfair - how can I get all 10’s from Ingrid and then a 1 from you? The cleanliness, comfort and facilities are a 10 and I don’t know how you can score it any differently? No one else has ever said there is a problem with the shower temperature so I can only assume that it was “operator error”. I am not sure what problem you had with the door? There is a handle in the common parts to reach the windows to open & close?

Verified reviewSmall but perfectly formed
Said it would be a bit noisy but the Ibiza party at the adjacent King's Head started at 1pm and finished at 1am with music blasting. Couldn't beat them so joined them ;)
Hi Mark, thank you for your comments and I’m very pleased you enjoyed your stay. Thanks, Mel

Verified reviewThe Cwtch B & B is located right in the middle of Chepstow, the directions given by the host a few days before our arrival made it easy to find. The rooms are basic but, clean and the bed was comfortable. There is a fully equipped kitchen and communal seating should you need it. Despite the noise I'd stay here again.
Be aware the bedrooms back onto the neighbouring pub. We stayed on a Friday and Saturday night. There is a fair amount of noise generated from said pub, which hosted an Ibiza style party on the Saturday from one 1pm to 1am. With music booming all day long. That said we slept really well probably due to a long journey from Scotland on the Friday and having being at a party ourselves on the Saturday.
Hi Melanie, thank you for your honest review. In terms of the noise from the pub, being in the Town Centre, you would expect this to a degree - Environmental Health from the Council have however been in touch with me regarding this point and I have relayed the views expressed by guests. I am pleased this would not deter you from staying again. Thanks, Mel

Verified reviewThe rooms were clean and comfortable. It's in a great location and the instructions for getting the keys were clear and easy to follow. The communal areas were clean and spacious.
The sky lights in room 5 needed blinds. We used towels to block the light but that meant the windows weren't closed tight which made the music from the pub next door louder. The extractor for the fish and chip shop is very loud in room 4.
Hi, thank you for your review I have purchased blinds for all rooms but they have not yet been fitted so apologies. The shop closes at 9 when the fan stops completely so I hope that didn’t disturb you too much. Thanks, Mel

Next to a pub with thumping music till 2am. Got 4 hours sleep before setting off on the Offa's Dyke Trail - not ideal. If any of the other rooms in the proper lets their door shut on its own it makes a huge noise.
Hi Adam, the location in the Town Centre does mean that it can be noisy on the weekends. The licenses are limited however so I will check this with the local Council. As you will see from the Welcome Message I sent to you, I do tell Guests we have 5 rooms and I ask everyone to be respectful to other Guests staying at the property - I cannot control Guests behaviour. The doors being Fire Doors and therefore heavy is a requirement of Building Regulations for Your safety. Thank you for your kind comments regarding cleanliness, facilities and comfort. Thanks, Mel
