How guest reviews work
Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We use a weighted review system which means that the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
- Politically sensitive comments
- Promotional content
- Illegal activities
- Personal or sensitive information (e.g. emails, phone numbers or credit card info)
- Swear words, sexual references, hate speech, discriminatory remarks, threats, or references to violence
- Spam and fake content
- Animal cruelty
- Impersonation (e.g. if the writer is claiming to be someone else)
- Any violation of our review guidelines.
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
Guidelines and standards for Reviews
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.

Excellent service from all thd staff at the Devonian they could not do enough for us. We arrived early and Kevin let us store our bags and get changed out of our motorcycle gear. When we got back at the correct check in time our bags and gear had been moved to our room and hung up. Breakfast was excellent and served quickly with a smile and a chat. Room had an excellent layout and so much room. The location was perfect for us and as a base for exploring the island was ideal. Great place to stay and highly recommended.

Nothing wrong with this accommodation, although sometimes it was fun running in and out to move the car, that is not their fault.
The accommodation was comfortable, clean and tidy, the staff were lovely and could not do enough for you.

We had to climb a few flights of stairs to get to our room, but the house is victorian so we just had to get on with it. Everything else made up for the climb!
Great location, within walking distance of shops and good restaurants. Served amazing breakfast’s cooked by Kevin.

Couldn’t find fault
Everything at the hotel was amazing , fantastic owner and staff. The family room is huge with normal beds and no put me ups. Excellent made to order breakfast.

Nothing. Perhaps a little fridge in the room would be useful to take own cold drinks as no bar at hotel.
Good location able to walk to many amenities, shops, cafes etc. Fabulous choice of breakfast. Very good vegan and gluten free options. Small single room but everything you need and very comfortable.

Nothing really. If you want window open the road is quite noisy but not Devonian ' fault.

The room was a little small, though we had been offered an upgrade, we didn't want a twin room .
Location was excellent, spotlessly clean and amazing breakfasts, even sorted us a takeaway breakfast for our early ferry.

Unfortunately, we were almost on the top floor with a lot of steps to negotiate. It is an old Victorian building so there's no room to install lifts. No private parking but street parking available subject to space availability. The staff did provide a parking disc which allows 2 hours parking in the peak restrictions though.
The room was very comfortable and well laid out. The choice of breakfast and quality was superb. The staff was very friendly and couldn't do enough for you, we were made to feel right at home.

Parking. You get two hours in morning free then need to move your vehicle which is right down the front of Douglas, hoping there’s a space free which is for sixteen hours. Then at night move back hoping there’s a space outside your hotel after 6pm.
Excellent location, excellent breakfast, very clean, very friendly and helpful staff.

We were in Room 2 on the first floor, the bathroom was adequate but very small. It was a bit noisy when other guests came in late at night and as we were next to the kitchen when breakfast was started early there was some noise along with the water draining from the airconditioning outside the window,
The property was well presented and beautifully decorated. The choice at breakfast was varied, freshly cooked and served by lovely ladies who were helpful and friendly.
