How guest reviews work
Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We use a weighted review system which means that the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
- Politically sensitive comments
- Promotional content
- Illegal activities
- Personal or sensitive information (e.g. emails, phone numbers or credit card info)
- Swear words, sexual references, hate speech, discriminatory remarks, threats, or references to violence
- Spam and fake content
- Animal cruelty
- Impersonation (e.g. if the writer is claiming to be someone else)
- Any violation of our review guidelines.
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
Guidelines and standards for Reviews

It's not 'modern' (and doesn't pretend to be) so the wifi is a bit slow and our TV wasn't a 'Smart' TV but worked as it should. In a way that's all part of the charm of this hotel.
Everything was as described online and went well. It's a very pleasant, friendly and comfortable hotel. Its location was perfect for us as it's near the seafront and a street of nice unpretentious restaurants and the theatre. It's an easy walk from and back to the railway station. Perfect for walking (or driving/bussing) to Beachy Head to the West or East to the Pier and beyond. It's clean, the lift works, the windows work, as does all the plumbing and so on! Breakfast was as described - no Michelin Star pretensions but nice with a good variety of the usual offerings.

Staff were great: friendly and responsive. Hotel location is excellent just few minutes from the seafront and with some restaurants nearby. Cleans and comfortable with parking.

Some fixtures and decor could do with a refresh now, the shower door had come off its rail before we used it, but easily fixed.

The bedroom furniture was a bit tired. Very small TV.
The location is superb. Very close to the seafront and opposite the lovely Towner gallery. Staff very helpful and friendly. Breakfast excellent quality and well cooked.

Nothing, it met the brief exactly
Great location, classic Eastbourne hotel. Staff were great, very friendly and accommodating. Room on the hot side and shower a little temperamental! The guy on reception was really helpful with my electric car and let me charge free of charge. He was also really helpful regarding where to park after we had checked out. Thank you!

We stayed on a room only basis and found the room to be clean and the bed was very comfortable. Bar area and separate lounge also very comfortable. Hotel is very much a home from home place, which we enjoy. Hotel is also in a great location for town, beachy head walks, and the beach. We did not take breakfast, but would have taken an evening meal, but the resturantant was not open for the few days of our stay. No problem as there are plenty of eating establishments nearby. We look forward to coming again.

Good, warm welcome and politeness. Excellent room and ensuite with vg furnishings and huge bed. Lovely warm temperature. Quiet. Vg breakfast. Very good sitting rooms available for use. Vg to be able to check out by 11 am giving time for a stroll by the sea before leaving.

Perfectly located near the theatre which was the purpose of our stay. Despite being a little dated the hotel was spotlessly clean and our room was comfortable and well equipped. We couldn’t fault the staff, cheerful, friendly, helpful and obviously happy in their work, they were faultless.

It’s a roomy vintage hotel, and the manager was kind enough to upgrade my room since it was available. They have two sitting rooms in the ground floor, an elevator, a nice dining room where they serve breakfast, including eggs & sausage if you wish. Their dining room is open on weekends, but I missed that, so no review for that. It’s a very short walk to the beach, which is lovely. Plus the sightseeing bus has started to run for the season.

We knew the restaurant was closed for 2 of our 3 nights but we were told about it on arrival. It was just a shame we had to venture out to eat.
