Read more– opens a dialog boxEach review score is between 1 and 10. To get the overall score you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of them. We use a weighted review system, which means the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. Guests can also give separate “subscores” in crucial areas like location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value, and free Wifi. Note that guests submit their subscores and overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an accommodation that you booked through our platform if you stayed there, or if you got to the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialize in detecting fake reviews submitted to our platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team so that our fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we'd publish every review we get, positive and negative. However, we won’t display any reviews that include or refer to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out. We may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old, or if the accommodation has a change of ownership.
An accommodation can reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (e.g. language, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). You can sort and/or filter them by time of year, review score, and more.
Sometimes we show external review scores from other well-known travel websites, but make it clear when we do this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly, without limiting expression or strong opinions. They're also applicable regardless of the comment's tone.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include hate speech, discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, or the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and other similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties, and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options might be available (by type of traveler, by score, etc...).

United KingdomNo tea coffee making facilities in the room, you had to phone the night porter to fetch your drinks. Three out of the five choices for dinner were vegetarian on the set menu, rabbit and venison being the meat eaters choice, what no steak??!! No sausage with the breakfast. But I must say the dinner we both had was very nice(venison)
Superb location out the way with views overlooking Ambleside. The pub is warm and cosy and the locals all friendly, lovely staff and some proper real ale brewed at the premises.

United KingdomBoth my wife and myself had a little difficulty working the shower . I eventually found out how to control the shower temperature but not before we had both experienced an unwelcome cold water shower initially. A note in the bathroom about controlling the shower temperature would have been helpful .
Very good breakfast, coffee superb . The evening. meal was to a very high standard. Room was charming and well presented ,although quite small .

United KingdomIt’s not a criticism because the food was wonderful, but we weren’t expecting to have to have 3 courses and as I am a very fussy eater, there wasn’t much choice for me with the main meal, but like I said what I did have was excellent
Room was lovely and clean, Breakfast was wonderful and all the staff went above and beyond.

United KingdomNo coffee making facility in the room - even a shared kettle in the cute nook at the top of the stairs would make a big difference. Personally, I prefer a modern shower, rather than the attachment to the taps, this combined with no shower curtain made for a messy shower! Unfortunately we had to give dinner a miss due to it being a pricey set menu.
Lovely pub and room - spacious and pretty decor. All the staff were friendly and welcoming. Delicious breakfast. Great selection of wines and beers in the bar. Great quiet location for exploring the area.

United Kingdom- Although described as a 'King Room' it was actually quite small ... but that is typical of hotels / inns of its age (1850s?) - No tea & coffee facilities in the room. However, room service was very prompt when we asked for tea at 6:45am (The hotel said it was 'bizarre' (their word) that guests expect to be able to make tea/coffee in the room). - No shower in the bathroom, just a handheld shower-head in the bath, with no shower curtain or screen. - Only a tiny shelf for toiletries, so we had to put them on the floor … where they got very wet … because there’s no shower curtain/screen! - Was it value for money? It was probably about 20-30% overpriced give the comments above re facilities/service. Would I stay there again? Maybe, but I would prefer to find somewhere that ‘ticked more boxes’ that the Drunken Duck did.
Lovely setting, nestling in the hills around The Lakes. The hotel was clean and comfortable, and there was no doubt that the staff/owners tried hard. However, some facilities and services were not up to the standard we have come to expect from hotels at this price: Excellent food, all to a really high standard - the kitchen 'punches above its weight'
