How guest reviews work
Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We use a weighted review system which means that the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
- Politically sensitive comments
- Promotional content
- Illegal activities
- Personal or sensitive information (e.g. emails, phone numbers or credit card info)
- Swear words, sexual references, hate speech, discriminatory remarks, threats, or references to violence
- Spam and fake content
- Animal cruelty
- Impersonation (e.g. if the writer is claiming to be someone else)
- Any violation of our review guidelines.
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
Guidelines and standards for Reviews
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

Verified reviewBrilliant location, right on the sea front! Room was huge for family of 4. Lovely indoor and outdoor play areas for the kids. Really good breakfast!!
Parking was a nightmare. We parked at the hotel - it said ‘reserved’ assuming for guests. We were wrong, we had to pre book parking, therefore needed to move the car and with 3 and 5 yr old this was far from ideal. Whilst the room was spacious the bathroom was poor - cold tap took a good few minutes to run cold, there was very little shower pressure. Could do with an upgrade.

Verified reviewNice staff. Good breakfast. Pool. Cinema.
Our room was near a noisy air conditioning unit and view wasn't the best. For size of hotel no guaranteed parking space. Pool was a bit cold until climatized to water.

Verified reviewThe view and the food.
We don’t like that we had to pay an additional £65 for the dog when we had booked it because it was a dog friendly hotel. Slow service on reception and for a £365 stay for one night the bar wasn’t clean and the reception weren’t overly helpful or friendly.

Verified reviewView was good from the room
Rooms were not clean , there were hair strands on my bed and even in bathroom . The carpet was very worn out . It cost me 250 pounds per night except for the view it was a waste of money . I was very unhappy with the stay expected a clean room . Completely spoiled my mood

Verified reviewAbsolutely brilliant holiday. Staff were super friendly and exceptional service. Room was lovely, clean and relaxing. Went for my partners 40th and he was very looked after. Kids loved all the activities and facilities.
Only very minor things: - you need to reserve parking, there was no information about this on the booking.com website. Roadside parking is incredibly limited and tricky to find a spot. Advanced notice of this would be much better for the hotel guests. - more vegan & veggie options. Particularly for my children with additional diary allergies. Only vegan kids option was tomato pasta. Perhaps a plant based burger or vegan pizza? And some plant based butter portions with the breakfast. I could only eat one thing from the main dinner menu too, we would have eaten a second night if there was more variety.

Verified reviewThe room was tiny, had may problems with the bath, the bed was two singles pushed together and when lying in the bed you could feel them whilst lying in the middle.

Verified reviewLocation, staff and facilities like pool, cinema, kids area etc were excellent.
The room was very noisy and it was hard to sleep due to a lot of noise from the room above. Even them walking around created all sorts of creaks and noises.

Verified reviewThe views are amazing from the rooms and the restaurant/reception area. It's across the road from the best beach in Cornwall. The food is fantastic as always. The staff are incredibly friendly and accommodating. The whole place is spotlessly clean and smells lovely! It's our 4th holiday to Newquay from Kent and we stay here every time with our son since he was 3, he's now nearly 6 and still loves the hotel so much. Claudia is his most favorite person and one of the reasons he begs us to stay at the same hotel every time. It's our number one choice for summer or even Christmas as it's beautiful! Will always be coming back every year! Thank you esplanade staff!

Verified reviewThis is, in my opinion, the best hotel in Cornwall. Beautiful views over the whole of Fistral. The only downside for me, was a lot of bratty kids, very loud. However I know this isn't the hotels fault or anyone's fault for that matter. So if I came again I would go to their sister hotel, which is adult only, next door. The staff were just above and beyond with absolutely everything. My nan unfortunately had a fall at the beach in the sea, and local taxis wouldn't take us back to the hotel because we were wet and sandy. We called the hotel and they got a car to us in less than 5 minutes. They got us a drink when we arrived back at the hotel. The food was delicious. Breakfast was amazing. I had the eggs royale, which was one of the nicest I've ever had. And my nan said the buffet was perfect. And the croissants were divine! The views from the breakfast room were spectacular over the whole of the beach. We couldn't have had nicer staff. Everyone was always happy to chat to you, ask you what you were doing. They kept our bags for us after we'd checked out, and wanted to go to the beach for a bit before heading back. Called numerous taxis for us. Really just amazing. Will definitely be back again. Thank you Esplanade
There wasn’t really anything to be honest. Everything was perfect.
