Didn’t reply to my requests regarding availability of 2 beds rather than double (requirement for night before surgery.). When we arrived there was confusion about the booking, this did get resolved by the nice girl behind the bar in the pub below, but added unnecessary stress to an already stressful situation. Luckily my husband was admitted early for surgery so didn’t need to stay the night as my 2 bed request hadn’t been actioned and it was a double bed in the room.

Close to Kings Hospital and Denmark Hill train station. Stayed here as my husband was having surgery at Kings. Was helpful to have a base nearby for the days he was in hospital.

Tea or coffee weren't provided, and there wasn't enough shower gel for 2 people. But this didn't ruin the trip as we nipped out to the shops.

For the money, you can't go wrong. We went for a gig at the Brixton Academy and got taxi's to and from, which took about 15 minutes each way. There are some shops nearby which were handy. Shower was good.

Poorly maintained room, terrible communication, and noisy location

The room was filthy, very dusty, and clearly hadn’t been vacuumed in a long time. The bathroom light stayed on constantly, and light leaked through the cracks in the door, which was annoying at night. Communication was extremely poor – actually, non-existent. The mobile number provided was always switched off, and they didn’t reply to messages through BDC, email, or even their pub’s Facebook page. The rooms are above a pub. We stayed on the top floor, and while it got a little noisy on the weekend, it’s worth knowing the building is right next to a main road. You’ll hear a lot of traffic noise, including lorries and buses.

The location was good and easy to find. The room had lots of space. Nice shower.

Firstly: you only find out about the room being above a pub after you book the room. Unfortunately, I booked a non-refundable rate (£126!) so I had no choice but to stick with it... Fortunately, it was quieter that I was expecting! When you try to contact the owner: by phone - goes straight to Voicemail, email - no one replies. You finally get to the room: only to see very dirty carpets, dust on bedside tables - plus other signs the room was not well cleaned... Door lock not working, but hoping that no one would attempt to open the door during the night 🙏 I would not recommend if you expect a bit more cleanliness. I would recommend if you really need a room near king's college hospital and are not staying for long... Very expensive for what offers.

Location, as this was the reason why I chose this property in the first place. On the second floor of a pub - but was quiet.

The room was functional at best. It's basically some rooms above a pub with a key code to get in. Nothing fancy but if you need a place to crash in the area it's fine - as long as you don't have high expectations.

Location was convenient for my needs. Carpet didn't look like it had been hoovered for a few weeks.

The hallways were unkempt and dirty. The picture on booking.com was nothing like the actual room, very basic, had to plug kettle into socket at floor level with kettle placed on the floor.

The room was warm and the bed comfortable. Johnathan was friendly enough.

The communal staircase and the showers are starting to show their age and maybe could do with a bit of a refresh to the paintwork, shower stall etc but the room was fine and the beds are lovely. In summer the rooms at the front a bit noisy cos you need the windows open but that’s normal in any city I think

Liz, the lady in the pub who checked me in and has done so on numerous other occasions is lovely and super helpful, kind and friendly and attentive. She even remembered stuff about me from previous stays which is really helpful. Like this stay I left the plug for my phone charger at home and she lent me a USB plug from the pub so I could charge it in my room👍🏻. Anything I asked her for she tried to provide and if she couldn’t she told me the best/easiest way of getting it elsewhere. Jonathan the manager is also very friendly and available if you need to speak to him. He will try his best to accommodate your needs and is very responsive if you contact him he gets back straight away👍🏻

Stairs to climb-no mention of this prior to booking. Very bad point due to medical conditions. Cleanliness of room OK, could have been better. Dusting not thorough. Shower tiles had some mould on the grouting.

Close to King's hospital necessary for an appointment. Close to tube station.
