How guest reviews work
Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We use a weighted review system which means that the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
- Politically sensitive comments
- Promotional content
- Illegal activities
- Personal or sensitive information (e.g. emails, phone numbers or credit card info)
- Swear words, sexual references, hate speech, discriminatory remarks, threats, or references to violence
- Spam and fake content
- Animal cruelty
- Impersonation (e.g. if the writer is claiming to be someone else)
- Any violation of our review guidelines.
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
Guidelines and standards for Reviews
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

Verified reviewFalkland is the most gorgeous town. The hayloft is amazing and included a private back yard with seating. Dog friendly. We thought it was very nice and would recommend without hesitation.
Lovely property with free public parking close by. Exceptionally clean with great facilities. Remember to take milk and shower products when you go.

Verified reviewRight in the middle of everything, but still super quiet. Parking is in the free lot about 100 meters away, so very convenient. There is a tea room upstairs, but they open later in the morning like 11am, so no noise issues. My favorite part was the tea room leaving some scones and jam in the room and they were delicious! I loved Falkland this was a great place to stay.
Nothing. It was great.

Verified reviewLocation and friendly host. Host left lovely cakes for us on arrival. Good enclosed garden for dogs. Location is excellent for seeing the palace and there are amazing country walks in the Falkland estate.
Parking was not on site but in a public car park 100 mtrs away. If only bringing a few bags it’s not an issue. Ground floor bedroom is fairly small and the window faces onto road. If one leaves the window open to let air into the bedroom, it is quite noisy from traffic early in the morning. Not a problem on Sunday mornings as quiet.

Verified reviewself catering - hosts were fantastic, they also run one of the village tearooms, and kindly gave us delicious cake & scones they serve both days - the garden is private and totally secure for pets, normally when a property says dog proof ours which a very small dog could find a way out. The hosts were informative on the local area and very pleasant - will certainly look to go again

Verified reviewI was very happy to return to the Hayloft due to its location close to parking, village centre and lovely walks. Bonuses for me-the courtyard for my dog first thing in the morning and last thing at night and for me being able to sit out due to the exceptional weather. Also very grateful for the step up available to get into the bath/shower. Only saw the host on arrival but knew where to find/contact if needed. Facilities, comfort , location and price will hopefully mean another return visit
Can't think of anything

Verified reviewThe host was wonderful, truly wonderful. We weren't able to take our own slippers so the host provided ones to us free of charge, which were really lovely too. We also had complimentary bakes from them even though it wasn't needed. Throughout the whole stay the lady was just really wonderful, we would definitely visit. The scenery was just great, the location is perfect !

Verified reviewThe location was excellent, very convenient and peaceful, right in the heart of the village of Falkland. Easy parking across the road in a public free carpark. The apartment is on the ground floor and owned by The Hayloft cafe above it, who left a slice of cake every afternoon which was very nice. There is also a small courtyard garden which was very pleasant to sit out in.
The bed was only a double and pushed up against one wall of the bedroom as the room is quite small. This was fine for me as I was travelling on my own, but I would have found that a pain if I was travelling with a partner.

Verified reviewLocation was great and having an enclosed garden great for the dog. The staff were very friendly and the complimentary scones from the tea room was a nice touch.
The bed wasn’t very comfortable- could feel the springs so could do with a new mattress. As we were only there 1 night and checked out before staff arrived we didn’t see anyone to mention this. There were some planks of old floorboards in the garden with nails still in them which were stacked behind the summer house which was a bit of a hazard for our dog.
