Read more– opens a dialog boxEach review score is between 1 and 10. To get the overall score you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of them. We use a weighted review system, which means the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. Guests can also give separate “subscores” in crucial areas like location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value, and free Wifi. Note that guests submit their subscores and overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an accommodation that you booked through our platform if you stayed there, or if you got to the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialize in detecting fake reviews submitted to our platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team so that our fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we'd publish every review we get, positive and negative. However, we won’t display any reviews that include or refer to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out. We may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old, or if the accommodation has a change of ownership.
An accommodation can reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (e.g. language, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). You can sort and/or filter them by time of year, review score, and more.
Sometimes we show external review scores from other well-known travel websites, but make it clear when we do this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly, without limiting expression or strong opinions. They're also applicable regardless of the comment's tone.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include hate speech, discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, or the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and other similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties, and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options might be available (by type of traveler, by score, etc...).

United KingdomThe room was very small and the bathroom even smaller, a small shower with toilet and basin, no electric shaver point. The bed was very uncomfortable with springs popping every time you moved. There was rubbish on the floor behind the bedside table ( I only saw this when I plugged my phone to charge)
The property is in a fantastic location, 30 mins drive to Edinburgh. There is a large car park at the rear. The food was really good, large portions and very well priced. Shower gel etc was provided in little bottles. The staff when arriving were very friendly and helpful with location attractions.

United KingdomSelling so much Brewdog was the only downside. A company that is against all things country doesn’t belong in a beautiful countryside pub. Would rather drink water than buy a drink made by them and lots of country folk think the same. Jeremy Clarksons Hawkstone saved the day.

JerseyBedroom next to main entry door of hotel so a little noisy with comings and goings of other guests, but to be expected at a pub stay. Very noisy fan in bathroom.
Loved the friendly staff who were so accommodating when our flight was late and we just made it in time to order dinner before the kitchen closed. Comfy stay. Lovely breakfast. Very clean room.

United KingdomShower fan sounds like a jet engine.
The beds were soooo comfy! There were 3 of us in 3 rooms and the decor was different in them all but all fantastic. The room had everything you could want and was very clean. We had breakfast and dinner in the restaurant and the food was very good. We were going to Edinburgh to drop my aunt off so this was a good location just outside the city and a great place to explore from.

United KingdomShower could have been bigger, but definitely was not as small as some. Bed had squeaky springs on one side! Feel I am being petty with these comments though, to just answer the question. Didn't spoil our stay. Small enclosed area outside of the restaurant- should not be a smoking area. Door was open & smell came in, luckily not for long. If more smokers had come along, this would definitely have spoilt things for us- as non smokers.
We loved the location, south of Edinburgh & on our way home to Lancashire, not using the motorway. Day of leaving we walked around the area & saw a sculptured, scaled map of Scotland. Very quirky & worth a visit. We arrived by car but there is a bus stop right outside the inn & frequent buses to/from Edinburgh (45mins ish), not sure how far the other way- maybe Carlisle/Selkirk- would need to check. Inn was lovely, staff couldn't have been more welcoming & helpful. Loved the atmosphere of the inn, well decorated, homely & clean. Spacious clean toilets. Car parking to side & around the back, next to our room. After drinks in the homely bar, in the evening we chose to use the restaurant for dinner. Perfect service & food. Very tasty. We both had steak pie for mains, one with mash, other chose chips. A hearty meal, plenty of soft, perfectly cooked, flavoursome meat. Starters I had brie in filo- could be a bit sweet for some but I enjoyed it. Hubby had the black pudding which he loved. Morning after we chose the Scottish breakfast plus porridge & toast- very tasty, hearty & set us up for the day. Our room was situated in a separate building behind the inn- an old school house we were led to believe. Great use of the building & well decorated, traditional theme looked good. At our time of staying everywhere was very quiet, but think on a very busy night you would still get a quiet nights rest as away from any potential noise. Well set back from the main road. Outside a lovely beer garden, great with our evening sun in the fresh air. Room was compact, described as cosy, which it was. Well decorated, clean, had two chairs, ample room to walk around the bed. Curtains & blinds, depending how dark you like to sleep. Compact clean bathroom, loved the multi light mirror.

United KingdomIf you’re wanting to go to Edinburgh late, you might struggle to get a taxi back from the city as it is quite far out. Close to Peebles though so ideal for that kind of break.
Amazing customer service. Allowed us to check in early then arranged a taxi so we could get to Edinburgh early for the oasis gig to soak up the atmosphere. Then allowed us to have breakfast despite arriving at the restaurant 45 mins past breakfast time. Exceptional. We were really well looked after.

United KingdomThe menu was excellent with a great choice of super dishes, all excellently cooked. So much so we could have stayed for a week (rather than 3 nights) and had a great, different meal each evening. The added bonus was having the same great menu in the bar as the restaurant, meaning we could take our dog to dinner. This was all complimented by a good selection of drinks, with wine reasonably priced. All the staff were very friendly and extremely helpful. Our Premier room was a good size and ideal for the two us + dog. The en suite bathroom was a good size, although I would have personally preferred a large walk in shower to the over the bath shower. Overall a great place to stay for a relaxing time (especially for dog owners) with super food and excellent staff
