Bathroom needs updating , walls to staircase need repairs due to water leaks , shame as the place is nice but needs some money spent to bring it back to where it should be.

Room and staircase to rooms need updating and maintenance work needed to bring up to an acceptable level. All the staff were great,everyone was happy and friendly good service in the bar , restaurant , reception and at breakfast. The breakfast was good value and served in good time with lots of options. Restaurant had a good selection of food and drinks on offer and the meal we had was well prepared and good value for money. The same drinks were £5 cheaper than the pub opposite , which was slightly more upmarket in its decor and layout. I would return for a night if in the area again as the place was value of money and the staff are great . also note there is a carpark at the rear if you are using the hotel /pub leave registration at reception .

Car park signage didn't mention free for residents so paid unnecessarily.

The washing facilities were much to be desired. The shower was poor and the lighting in bathroom also dull. Door lock jammed in the last morning and we had to phone reception to let us out.

The hotel is very dated - the walls were all stained, the window wouldn't stay open, the plug sockets were in the wrong places and the main light didn't really work. I think the whole place needs to be completely renovated to be honest. It was clean but didn't feel clean because the walls in my room were stained and there was black mould in the stairwell.

The staff were amazing, nothing was too much trouble for them. They definitely get a 10 out of 10. The location was excellent as well. The room was very tired-looking but clean. We had our evening meal there which was good value for the money, but the steak was as tough as old boots.

A bit shabby. Never had clean towels replaced during my stay. This was NOT their fault... but it was 93! Problem: no air conditioning! They did try to help by putting a tower cooling unit but it did not work! In fact it simply turned the room into into a steam bath. It literally fogged up the windows. When I mentioned it supposedly someone came to look at it but it never put out any cool air at all!

I was looking for a quintessential British hotel experience. This was it. Hotel over a pub. Steep stairs. But lots of character. Continental breakfast. Free parking. Comfortable bed but scratchy sheets. The staff was friendly.

Only because we are old and creaky we didn’t enjoy climbing 2 flights of stairs to our room. The stairs were safe and handrails were great but it’s a difficulty that comes with age of property and guest! We love old traditional hotels - it’s not a complaint - just something to perhaps warn people of - no lift.

Poor ventilation in the room. During summer months, it's very uncomfortable to spend the night, a fan was provided but it barely blew air, it really didn't cool the room. The only two windows we could open were the bathroom and room but only a little bit of it because they both had locks.

The staff was always very friendly and helpful. Location was nice because it had small shops nearby.

Room 1 has really tired decor and furnishings, room very warm and directly above bar and beer garden so noisy for a light sleeper. Tiny wash hand basin with glass shelf directly above it, awkward for teeth brushing or shaving - other rooms may be better

Staff were exceptionally helpful, beds very comfortable, safe parking almost at the door. Dining experience exceptional. Lovely little dogs, we were missing ours. Outdoor eating area for breakfast in the sun. Lovely quiet library dining room, I travelled with a spectrum grand-child.
