How guest reviews work
Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We use a weighted review system which means that the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
- Politically sensitive comments
- Promotional content
- Illegal activities
- Personal or sensitive information (e.g. emails, phone numbers or credit card info)
- Swear words, sexual references, hate speech, discriminatory remarks, threats, or references to violence
- Spam and fake content
- Animal cruelty
- Impersonation (e.g. if the writer is claiming to be someone else)
- Any violation of our review guidelines.
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
Guidelines and standards for Reviews
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.

We have stayed a few times and I felt that this town things weren’t quite as good as usual. The room was really cold. I played about with the heating but it didn’t make any difference. I couldn’t go to reception to ask for a blanket as my 10 year old was competing the next day and I couldn’t leave her. I didn’t want to wake her. There went any blankets or spare duvets, so we put our jackets over the covers but it was chilly. It was draughty, I’m not sure if it was because we were next to the fire exit. Breakfast seemed a good deal but ended up costing more than expected as you had to pay for tea separately, 2 cups was £5 which I thought was steep and to be honest the breakfast was cold when we came so we didn’t finish it. The staff were nice but the standard just wasn’t as good as usual.

Payment taken nearly 3 days beforehand, something to bare in mind! We had a free cancellation room and either booking.com or the hotel took the payment about 30 hours before last date we could cancel and not be charged, a bit late if they've already taken the payment! Poor food at the restaurant. Bad back due to hard bed, not at all comfortable. Pillows were nice. Nice hot water for a bath. We came to the area for a wedding and it was convenient not having to drive somewhere to have an evening meal the day before and breakfast on both mornings and lunch before the long drive home. That was the plan. We had two out of the four intended meals here, tasteless watery Mac and cheese and avocado (green mush) with bacon and egg on toast with the single most basic continental breakfast I've ever seen. Both meals led to use eating elsewhere for remainder of our stay. No one asks how your meal is, the staff must know it's poor so no opportunity to say so. Hotel is ok, looked clean on first look until you have a bath and see the light reflect off of the unclean walls of the shower and grime around the outlet etc. Provided toiletries and absolute pain, either the pumps are bust and not tested or they intentionally make you press it 15 times to get a sufficient amount of gel to shower with, it's the tiniest of presses to get the tiniest of amounts. EV charging on site was seamless, not the cheapest around but worked as it should. We paid 180 quid for this basic room in a building with a poor restaurant across the road and the only form of reception being a table at that restaurant. 50 quid a night maximum this should have cost us, we'd have been much less picky about our stay had that been the case. No elevator, it's literally just two floors or rooms with a staircase in between and a vending machine at the entrance which I heard guests complaining to staff about it so we didn't use it. Just the whole stay has been a bit of a let down.

Verified reviewNice configuration, accommodation away from pub and near bus stop to connect to train at Kilwinning station. Nice artwork on the wall above bed and one USB charging port.
Hotel needs maintenance, bathrooms ventilation bunged up with dust creating unnecessary annoying noise and no timer to that turns them off, mean 24 humming noise, which comes into bedroom with bathroom door closed. No USB charging by bed. Very limited vegan food in the pub.

Verified reviewThe room was very clean and it was very quiet even though close to a main road,the beds was so comfortable I slepted like a log,the room was a great size had all we needed..air con was great..didn't stay for food as we wasn't bothered about so can't comment on that,booking in was inside the pub which confused me at first but they couldn't do enought for us if we needed anything..would definitely come and stay here again if we are up this way x
