How guest reviews work
Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We use a weighted review system which means that the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
- Politically sensitive comments
- Promotional content
- Illegal activities
- Personal or sensitive information (e.g. emails, phone numbers or credit card info)
- Swear words, sexual references, hate speech, discriminatory remarks, threats, or references to violence
- Spam and fake content
- Animal cruelty
- Impersonation (e.g. if the writer is claiming to be someone else)
- Any violation of our review guidelines.
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
Guidelines and standards for Reviews
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Verified reviewThe location is spot on. Parking is a bit of tricky.
Where did i start. 1. We were given a very monotone greeting on arrival as if we were an inconvenience. 2. The bill was paid on check in full and were directed to our room. 3. Given the amount we had paid we were not impressed. Understanding that it was at the height of the season we believe the payment was inordinate. 4. We noted the room was tiny, no evident from the pictures. The TV mounted on the wall was not new and I could access a USB port, and when doing so noted that the rear od the TV had clearly not been cleaned in some time and when the room had been painted there put paint on the TV. 4. Given we noted the dust, we checked the rest of the room and bathroom. The shower head was covered with mildew/mold, there was mold on the ceiling and the left side of the shower. There was dust on top of all the pictures and the underneath the bed which is quite thick. Clearly these rooms are not given a thorough clean at all. Even the wall above the bed was covered in dust. 5. The pillows had hairs on them. 6. We decided given my partners health not to be confrontational. 7. There were no towels or hand towels in the room and we had asked for them. 8. We booked a table for our evening meal and a simple missing peas with one of our dishes did nothing to improve our view of the establishment. 9. Our breakfasts were not as asked, and on the last day, my partner sausage was cremated, any cook nevermind a chef would have not served it. We should point out that the rooms issues have all been evidenced by photographs, which you will be aware are dated and time stamped when taken. All in all a very disappointing experience given the cost, which was certainly not worth it!!!! Frankly, there should be a 50% reimbursement.

Lots of stairs especially to small attic room ! Wifi didn’t work in bedroom, shower was inadequate,
Thank you for your comments. Unfortunately the building is very old with very thick walls. The WiFi is strong downstairs in the public bar areas but sometimes does drop out in the rooms.

The lady was not very welcoming on arrival. She didn't seem very happy. And when we came down for breakfast, she looked fed up. When my husband ordered his hot food, she made a patronising comment about how he ordered it. The shower in our room didn't work very well, and the grout in the tiles was dirty and mouldy in places. The parking at the property was very tight.

The car parking is very tight, only a few spaces available.

No water in the room
Thank you for your review. We are not sure what you mean about no water. We don’t provide bottles of water (as we are not a hotel) but we do sell water from the bar. Each room has an en-suite which has running drinking water from the basin.

Verified reviewBreakfast was fantastic. We stayed in the budget room. The bed was cosy and the room was nice for a little getaway. The only thing was the room was absolutely boiling hot!! Not sure if this was due to being on the top floor. Staff were all very friendly and made us feel welcomed as soon as we arrived. Other than the room being a tad hot we both absolutely loved our little trip and will 100% be back! . Thankyou

Lighting in the room is poor, headboard to the bed was detached from the wall, shower cubicle too small and the space to access the toilet is too narrow.. this place is not disability friendly, parking is too tight on a hilly surface. fan and towel given to one room and not the other

We accommodated your friend with parking so you could be collected after walking The Dales Way Walk. You asked about the fan and we explained they were in the wardrobe for guests to use if required.
