Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We use a weighted review system which means that the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

United KingdomMy only issue was that the room was situated next to the lift which caused a lot of noise from the lift itself at all hours of the night. Regardless we’ve rebooked as we still adore this hotel
We’ve now stayed at the shankly a couple times and we love it here. The rooms are spacious and clean. The beds are always supremely comfortable.

United KingdomWhen we dropped our luggage off we were upgraded to a bigger room and on check in the changed it. Some parts of the hotel are looking tired and in need of upgrading.
Love how close it is to the train station and the centre of Liverpool. Staff are very welcoming. Breakfast is great and staff were amazing.

United KingdomThe price of the brunch was extortionate especially for me as l don't drink (although they very kindly let me have coffee instead of alcohol and the food was actually delicious, quality and beautifully presented with tiny cakes and sandwiches and delicious warm scones)

United KingdomNot very family friendly in terms of I feel its more of a party hotel. The kids loved it but its was very noisy. Our room was located at the beginning of a corridor, near the lift which meant when people came in at 2,3,4,5am we heard everything. It may be beneficial to have a family corridor or maybe locate them at the end of the corridors not near the lifts.
Location is brilliant, very clean, staff are very friendly

United KingdomI wasn't pleased with my room. I did ask reception about swapping and theh did try but unflrtunately hotel was busy. Having stayed in the shankely before my room didn't exceed the rooms I have stayed in previously. The bathroom floor didn't lock wouldn't even close we had to put the bin there for it to stay closed. The room was very dated. Curtain missing. Aircon didn't work. Only one window would open. Very stuffy through the night and the sound of the traffic outside kept me awake most of the night. Having previously stayed in garden of Eden and indulgence. The silver themed room we stayed was no were near as nice as these two rooms.
The staff are always lovely at the shankley and I love the welcoming atmosphere in reception area with the decor.

United KingdomRoom decor was a bit shabby, air con initially wasn't working which wasn't great when we first arrived all hot and bothered from the walk from the train station in the heat (but was repaired upon request.) Bathroom fine but only one toilet roll provided at a time, with three children this ran out very quickly. Wasn't aware toilet roll rationing was in effect in Liverpool! Spa bath a bit disappointing as the power level knob didn't seem to do anything (and the hot/cold tap fell off upon touching it!). Television was difficult to use and very little choice of channels for the kids (disappointing on a night when us parents wanted a little bit of peace!)
Room was huge and was a free upgrade from the one we booked. The beds were very comfortable. Shower excellent. No noise from adjoining rooms, staff very helpful.

United KingdomJust felt like it could do with a bit of tlc in the room, nothing major. It was a pretty and spacious room!
The reception is lovely coming in! Looks well maintained and stylish, the room itself was lovely but could see a fair bit of wear and tear which is a shame because if it is maintained well, I think it could be the most ideal hotel to stay in! We came as a family of 5, the room was really spacious and to my 8 year old lad he said “we are staying in luxury” and I quote! I think for a bigger family this is ideal as many hotels in the area and chain hotels sadly cannot accommodate for this size group. It also provides a kitchen area to the room we had which I wasn’t expecting upon booking, a really nice touch which provided more area! I can imagine for a hen or stag then this hotel venue would be a really REALLY great choice! Finally the bathroom, the bath was MASSIVE! And was a really lovely touch, with the added element of the rainfall shower, this wasn’t really powerful which I was expecting but it was a lovely element and overal the stay was ideal for what we needed and wanted.
