How guest reviews work
Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We use a weighted review system which means that the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
- Politically sensitive comments
- Promotional content
- Illegal activities
- Personal or sensitive information (e.g. emails, phone numbers or credit card info)
- Swear words, sexual references, hate speech, discriminatory remarks, threats, or references to violence
- Spam and fake content
- Animal cruelty
- Impersonation (e.g. if the writer is claiming to be someone else)
- Any violation of our review guidelines.
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
Guidelines and standards for Reviews
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

Verified reviewLovely cottage that was within easy (5 minute walk) of the town centre. It was very quiet whilst we were there but it maybe a little noisier when there is a football match on as the club is on the same road but don’t let that put you off. A great location for touring the area. The garden was a nice place to sit in and enjoy the afternoon sun.

Verified reviewEasy communication; owner lives next door. Private parking. Lovely little cottage with many thoughtful and personal touches. Extensive welcome pack of food. Good size for a couple, would be fine for 4. Hot water was plentiful. Great location in an authentic Scottish town with friendly people and wonderful country walks, easy drive into Inverness and around the Black Isle.

Verified reviewProximity of train station. Town is close (5 min by foot). Big room with high ceiling, a little hard to heat but very pleasant.
The toaster was so rusty that we didn't dare use it. The shower is small (we are tall >1.85m which doesn't help). Lack of clothes drying rack!
Good morning Thomas Thank you for your reply. I am sorry about the toaster I will get that replaced immediately and would have been happy to do so had you contacted me during your stay. We are planning on fitting central heating this year in an attempt to help with the heating but we find it stays warm if the heaters are left on but low all the time rather than letting the building go cold. Thank you for your review. We always appreciate the comments from guests and do our best to accommodate any requests and suggestions.

Verified reviewVery clean, comfortable & attractive decoration. The owners had added several mirrors and wall lights to boost the natural light. The location was excellent: near shops restaurants, pubs, the station, bus stops and (if you are interested) the football ground, home of Ross county.
There wasn't any view. This was partly because of being ground floor, but mostly on account of frosted glass / privacy film on the windows. On the other hand, this did ensure complete privacy.

Verified reviewThe large double bedroom was comfortable.
The settee is incredibly uncomfortable and low. We got ground floor access for a reason, my mum really struggled to get up off it it's so low. The.kitchrn window can't be opened, the extractor fan doesn't work, one ring on the cooker doesn't work. One small roll.of loo roll left. It's fine to do that but just tell us so no nasty surprises.
I ’m really sorry to hear you didn’t enjoy your stay—it’s upsetting to know you left feeling this way. I wish I’d had the chance to put things right during your visit, as I’d have been more than happy to help. If I’d known your mum was struggling with the sofa, I could have brought in a higher chair. The kitchen window does open, though I know it’s not the easiest to reach, I haven’t yet found a better layout solution. If the hob issue had been mentioned, I’d have had someone out to fix it right away. We now have a new hob. As for the toilet roll, there should have been extra in the box above the toilet—I’m sorry if that wasn’t clear. Thank you for your feedback—I take it seriously and will do all I can to improve.

Verified reviewWe found it a nice historical building with character; excellent master bedroom with a large comfortable bed; the host was very nice and readily responded to our questions. The location is great for highland day trips. There was also some bread/croissants/milk etc. on arrival as a courtesy.

Verified reviewThe building (formerly a courthouse), is an interesting conversion and this small lodge charming with its little square of lawn and courtyard. It is just a 5 minute walk across the bridge into the high street of Dingwall and easy to shop at award winning butchers as well a Tesco super store. Easy entry with host giving code for box a few hours before. Rooms have high ceilings and is freshly decorated in white/grey tones. Bedrooms are spacious, galley kitchen reasonably well equipped, bathroom shower very small but with fantastic shower pressure and HUGE choice of soaps/shampoos etc. Very good wifi speed. Nice touch that host supplied some milk and eggs and bread etc. Much appreciated.
The small fridge did not have a freezer compartment (only discovered I had purchased ice cream etc). The following points are purely personal and may not affect many other travellers: The sofa, whilst of ample size, and with an assortment of attractive cushions, was sagging and uncomfortable to sit on. Whilst the bed linens complemented the overall decor, my preference is for crisp white cotton. On the whole, no complaints at all.
