We were greated by Alec, he explained him and Sophie had taken over the Shirley only 8 weeks ago, which was a suprise, as they ran the b&b as though they had done it for years, everything clean and comfortable. Breakfast was perfect. We're booking again for next year

Friendly hosts, spacious room. Great breakfast.

Shower pressure too low but we know that the owners have plans to upgrade which they have already started. It will be good to see it finished.

The family room was big with comfy bed and good size bathroom. The breakfast was delicious, freshly made by hosts. Location is great, few minutes walk to the marina. Sophie and Alec are lovely hosts.

The building was full of charm and character. It was just a leisurely 10 minute stroll to the harbour and waterfront area. Nick and Chen were superb hosts, helpful and very friendly.

Getting into and out of the car park is a challenge with the access being so steep but it is doable.

We were very early for our check in but we were made very welcome and given helpful information. As we were able to check in so early we were able to make the most of both the beautiful weather and our visit. Breakfast was great and set us up for the day.

Chen and Nick were incredibly friendly and did everything to ensure our stay was wonderful. The location was close to the city centre and other interesting venues like the museum. The building itself was stunning with period features and modern amenities.

My wife and I were met on arrival by co-host Nick who, together with wife Chen, run the hotel. Everything was explained clearly and with good information. Could not have been more helpful and very easy going and friendly. We were given a room upgrade and the room was very nice indeed. TWO comfy chairs (much welcomed, for us think this is important ). The room was very clean and nicely decorated and the bathroom was very nicely done. Plenty of hot water and plenty of light and the room was nice and warm, this was November after all. We met Chen during breakfast times and she was lovely and friendly and the breakfast was also very nice, with varied menu options (which you choose the day before). The hotel itself is an attractive and interesting old building just far enough away from the harbour and centre to be quiet but still within easy reach. There are some very nice restaurants close by and we like this part of town. The double bed was also very comfortable and everything in the room worked.

Nothing we didn't like about the hotel or hosts. However, the hotel is situated in a hilly area and if you are poor on your feet (I suffered a heavy cold before and during our stay and felt quite weak at times) the walk to the hotel from the town/harbour can be stretching. Of course, we could always have used the car but that would have been too easy!

Nick and Chen are the most wonderful hosts who go above and beyond to ensure your stay is as comfortable as possible. Nick telephoned me prior to my trip to warn me of roadworks and advise of a better route to take, he was also present on my arrival and made myself and my husband a very welcome pot of tea! We met Chen at breakfast the next morning which we could not fault, Chen was attentive and nothing was too much trouble. Many thanks to you both !

The driveway was very steep so a handrail could be useful to less able bodied guests to prevent a fall but that is being very picky !
