The only small issue we had was with the parking on one of the days, we had to drive to a party as a taxi was 30 minute wait and when we got back we could not park. We had to park down the road until a space become available.

Location for us was perfect as we were visiting family and was only a 10 min walk through the fields, if wanting to go into Weymouth would be about a 30-40 min walk which we do not mind. Lovely little pub, food and staff were great. Rooms are a little small but when away you don't spend much time in anyway, were very clean.

The evening entertainment was very loud and you wouldn't be able to sleep until it was over. I was happy to join in but beware if you want an early night!

I liked everything about our stay, only thing I could mention was that the room was a bit hot despite having window wide open and fan on. It is august tho, so!

Everything was great. Room was lovely and clean, breakfast was lovely, parking directly outside was easy and we got to check in early also. Very pet friendly.

What you have to get used to in England is the single sheet on a double bed and the relatively smaller double beds. For tall persons that can be an annoyance. The pub is on the main road, so there is traffic. While Portland has double windows that cancel some of the noise, Bowlease only has the traditional single window. We slept nonetheless, but if you come from an absolute quiet area at night, there is a change. You don't hear anything from the pub. And with the bus stop directly in front of the window of Portland you should not be surprised if someone greets you in rare occasions through the window from the upper deck of the bus. The buses are not that full.

We stayed 4 nights in the lovely rooms Portland and Bowlease. Both have a dedicated entrance to the building that can be closed separately, which makes them perfectly suitable for families. Portland even has a little kitchen and a washing machine, just in case. Breakfast in the pub was typical English, if you prefer the continental way, options might be a bit limited. But just ask your host. They are very friendly and will try to accommodate you. In the evening you can have the typical pub food, pies, Mac&cheese, Burgers and the like. Made with love from the kitchen, for sure. We might be back, if we are again in the area.

I didn’t dislike anything & would stay again

Room was small but just to sleep was perfectly adequate. The bed so was so soft you turned over and nearly rolled out but that’s just our preference. Abit more tlc on the bathroom housework few stray pubes lurking around

There was a flood on the last morning & it meant we didn’t have water for washing. There was also night-time entertainment that meant we couldn’t go to sleep early.

It was close to family & nearby places of interest.

A minor niggle -road noise a bit intrusive however the double glazing once closed seemed to cut out most of it -it didn’t disturb us and having stayed in the same room before we were well aware of it .

Car park could get busy at times however we were lucky to find a space each night. Stairs to room was ok however tight trying to get suitcase up. Staff did offer to assist if needed which was nice. Rooms were hot but fan was provided which helped.

The spice ship offered beautiful but compact rooms. Lovely touches such as earplugs and eye masks as well as good provision of tea and coffee, my daughter especially liked the hot chocolate and biscuits. Staff were friendly and paid attention to detail making the stay extra special. Breakfast was nice and nothing was too much. Would definitely return here in the future!

Nothing, we liked it all

The room and en suite we had (Portland) has been recently refurbished to a very good standard. It had an large TV and we were not expecting the small breakfast bar/kitchenette which was really useful. The pub had good food and we had breakfast included which was excellent. The beer garden and covered area was very nice and there are music events that we intend to visit.

The room was SO hot, even with the window cracked and the fan on. The staff at dinner seemed disinterested, didn't have any cocktail ingredients, and gave us dirty glasses. There wasn't anyone at check out after waiting so we had to drop the key and go.

The room was really nicely decorated, with a good array of tea and coffee, bed and pillows also comfy. The location is also great for visiting Durdle Door and Weymouth. The lady at check in was nice.

Not total negative but as an improvement to have a mini fridge or ice bucket would be a nice to have in the rooms. A lot of calcium in the bottle of complimentary tap water. Coffee and tea in the morning tasted stale. Shower drained really slowly, so had to turn off before it overflowed.

The ship theme in the bar had a nice warm touch and family feel. Bed, towels and toilet were clean and overall cosy vibe. Showers were very quick to heat up and hot.
