Each review score is between 1 and 10. To get the overall score you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of them. We use a weighted review system, which means the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. Guests can also give separate “subscores” in crucial areas like location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value, and free Wifi. Note that guests submit their subscores and overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an accommodation that you booked through our platform if you stayed there, or if you got to the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialize in detecting fake reviews submitted to our platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team so that our fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we'd publish every review we get, positive and negative. However, we won’t display any reviews that include or refer to (among other things):
- Politically sensitive comments
- Promotional content
- Illegal activities
- Personal or sensitive info (e.g. emails, phone numbers, credit card info)
- Swear words, sexual references, hate speech, discriminatory remarks, threats, or references to violence
- Spam and fake content
- Animal cruelty
- Impersonation (i.e. if the writer is claiming to be someone else)
- Any violation of our review guidelines.
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out. We may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old, or if the accommodation has a change of ownership.
An accommodation can reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (e.g. language, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). You can sort and/or filter them by time of year, review score, and more.
Sometimes we show external review scores from other well-known travel websites, but make it clear when we do this.

Only thing, we were below the owners room & could here them talking & moving about, but it wasn't an issue when we put earplugs in, and it wasn't for long.
There was information saying the rooms would be upgraded later in the year, which was reflected in the price. In the centre of Ambleside for meeting up with family. Great to have own entrance, if you didn't want to go through bar.

The shower was very difficult to control the temperature and the room was a bit slanted and on the older time. There was some street noise from down below as well.
The staff were extremely friendly and accomodating when we had to store a bag and check out a bit later... very flexible and understanding. The location was also great... right in Ambleside.

As recognised by the hotel themselves, this is an old building, and is overdue some renovation. The bar area has now gone 'through' being dated and come out the other side and it's now full vintage 😆, but with a modern beer selection. No parking at the hotel, but plenty in town and wasn't an unknown feature. This is a pub, in the middle of Ambleside. Don't be surprised to hear loud voices and other associated noises at 2300-0000hiurs.

The noise travelled quite a bit from the bar so was difficult to get to sleep but settled shortly after 11pm. The shower didn’t work properly, it was either so hot I couldn’t stand under it, or freezing cold.
The location is great, and for the price paid, was worth staying at the Unicorn. Staff were super friendly when checking in and showing me to the room. Lovely folks.

Room was very small, low ceilings but great value for the price just if you were spending any time in the room it was a bit cramped.

There's no onsite parking, nearest parking is a 10min walk away which is fine if you're light on luggage. Rooms are ok, very basic but they have all the necessities. As it is an old establishment, floors are very creaky which means you do hear everyone walking around at various hours.
Staff were very friendly and helpful, the location is fantastic for exploring Ambelside and surrounding areas.

Little bit noisy - people passing our room to get to theirs, and the people in the room above.
Friendly staff, lovely pub, food was great and the beds were comfy. Location was good and it was perfect for what we needed.

Rooms are dated and didn’t represent value for money. Bed to our liking. Lots of noises coming from the building and plumbing throughout the night interrupting sleep.

The place is dated so i expect a shower that’s poor or a kettle that takes forever to heat up especially at £75 a night, but my room needed a good clean, would have taken 30 mins, no excuse for that these days!
Great location and the pub is really good! Quirky place with character!
