Read more– opens a dialog boxEach review score is between 1 and 10. To get the overall score you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of them. We use a weighted review system, which means the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. Guests can also give separate “subscores” in crucial areas like location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value, and free Wifi. Note that guests submit their subscores and overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an accommodation that you booked through our platform if you stayed there, or if you got to the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialize in detecting fake reviews submitted to our platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team so that our fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we'd publish every review we get, positive and negative. However, we won’t display any reviews that include or refer to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out. We may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old, or if the accommodation has a change of ownership.
An accommodation can reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (e.g. language, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). You can sort and/or filter them by time of year, review score, and more.
Sometimes we show external review scores from other well-known travel websites, but make it clear when we do this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly, without limiting expression or strong opinions. They're also applicable regardless of the comment's tone.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include hate speech, discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, or the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and other similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties, and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options might be available (by type of traveler, by score, etc...).

United KingdomHaving to leave to come home!
The cottage is absolutely beautiful, in a stunning setting, with excellent facilities, and lots of beautiful little touches. The host really has thought of everything to make your stay comfortable and cosy. Full information was provided in the cottage on how to use every appliance, as well as a wealth of information on local and island attractions and places to eat etc. Also very usefully, a lot of information on places to eat and visit locally was sent through electronically prior to our arrival to enable planning, which was great. Check in and out was smooth and contactless with a keysafe, and Donald checked on us with a message a couple of days into our stay in case we needed anything. I think this was the cleanest place I have ever stayed in. Everything is brand new. Furnishings and decor are perfect. We especially loved the sky lights, cosy throws for sitting watching TV or reading in the armchairs, and cute yard space with lights and seating to enjoy the surroundings. Sitting out with a coffee at sunrise listening to the wildlife was amazing. Thank you Donald for excellent communication throughout, and for a fantastic week in your adorable cottage!

United KingdomThere is genuinely nothing we could fault.
The cottage itself is exceptionally renovated with so much attention to detail and high quality furnishings and decor. It had everything you could need, including lovely toiletries. Many of the pictures and pottery in the cottage are made on the island. We had a good lunch at Port of Ness, a great pub tea at the Cross Inn, which is just an easy half hour walk away and has lovely staff, great Guinness and a good menu. I loved the gin tour at the Harris gin distillery. We especially liked all the beautiful beaches that are everywhere. We enjoyed Lews castle museum, which also has a lovely cafe. From there it’s a short walk into Stornoway. On the first night, there were deer behind the cottage, which are beautiful to watch. On the final night I watched the aurora borealis from the enclosed garden. On one of our drives we saw a pair of golden eagles and from the lighthouse we saw seals and many different birds. We felt the cottage was perfect in terms of location, comfort and as a beautiful base to explore.

United KingdomWe’ve previously stayed in cottages which could be listed as good, alright and downright awful. No21. didn’t meet any of these. It was an exceptional home from home. To just walk through the door and see the property and knowing this is where you’ll be staying makes the journey far north worth every mile travelled. Donald has thought of everything to make your stay as comfortable as can be even if it is wild weather outside. Donald”s attention to detail also went beyond the property. Whether it was local information or relating to the cottage he was available at all times. We can’t thank him enough and this review doesn’t justify how great no.21 is.

GermanyI can't think of anything here :)
We had such a lovely time at this beautifully decorated cottage, exactly as shown in the pictures. From the moment we walked in, we felt right at home! Donald, is an incredibly friendly, helpful, and attentive host. He was always available for any questions or issues, and even made sure to pump up the radiators manually when the temperatures here in Scotland suddenly dropped, which we really appreciated. The cottage is perfectly located, close to the stunning Butt of Lewis and several breathtaking beaches. It was such a nice and cosy feeling to come home after a long day outside. We felt so comfortable during our entire stay, and the serene surroundings made it all the more special. Highly recommend this place for a relaxing and peaceful getaway!

United KingdomNothing, I think you’d be hard pushed to find faults with this cottage
Everything about the property was perfect, as a builder with 50 years experience in the trade I always like to see the standard of the modernisation of properties we go to, the standard of work carried out at this cottage was exceptional. It has everything you’d need whether it’s for a short stay or a long stay. Anyone looking for a nice well equipped cottage need look no further than No 21, it is exceptional. The property owner was on hand in case you had any queries, thank you Donald

United KingdomLocation wise it is very north in the island so to get anywhere you do have to drive quite a bit just to get to the main loop road.
We absolutely loved how cosy and comfortable the house was and how close it was to the local beach!

21 is an absolutely perfect hideaway cottage, in a great location for North Lewis. Great care has been taken to provide everything you might need - facilities and fittings were all high quality, well thought out and everything was spotlessly clean. Donald was a terrific host - great communication and very welcoming. Highly recommend!

United KingdomWe loved it!
This is a very special property, so thoughtfully designed with every modern comfort while still retaining it’s character & charm. Every consideration has been made to ensure guests have everything they would need for a perfect stay. So clean, bright & modern - even has an outdoor patio to enjoy the amazing sunsets. Great communication from the owner Donald, who was so kind & helpful & gave us lots of information on places to visit/ local amenities etc. The location was ideal for us, as it was in a village with a wonderful local store (that sells everything!) & a treasure trove of a charity shop! It is also close (5-10min drive) to Port of Ness/ Butt of Lewis/ Eoropie Dunes Beach & Ness Heritage Centre. Also some good walking trails nearby. Great base from which to explore the Island.

United KingdomNothing to add here as we were very happy with every aspect of this booking.
My husband and I are just back from a wonderful 4 night stay at this lovely cottage. Donald had kindly sent an emails in advance of our arrival with information regarding the local services and he provided us with the keysafe number for easy access on arrival. The cottage was recently renovated to a very high standard and the decor was very tasteful. Very clean and tidy. Lovely toiletries in the bathroom. Comfortable bed. Catered for all of our needs. Will be recommending this cottage to our family and friends. Thank your Donald!

Fantastic cottage, beautifully finished, excellent attention to detail, everything has been well thought out, all self catering needs are covered. Perfect for two, I would say it's actually better than the pictures show. There are a couple of eating out options nearby and a grocery store with everything you need for a short stay.
