How guest reviews work
Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We use a weighted review system which means that the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
- Politically sensitive comments
- Promotional content
- Illegal activities
- Personal or sensitive information (e.g. emails, phone numbers or credit card info)
- Swear words, sexual references, hate speech, discriminatory remarks, threats, or references to violence
- Spam and fake content
- Animal cruelty
- Impersonation (e.g. if the writer is claiming to be someone else)
- Any violation of our review guidelines.
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
Guidelines and standards for Reviews

Having to park away from the hall. Poor car park signage for the hall.

Parking wasn’t close, as work was being done so had to walk 10 mins from and to the car park through torrential rain.

The location is closest to Exeter St Davids station but the walk is almost entirely uphill
Easy check in process with super friendly staff. Area to leave bags before check in/after check out. Good sized room with a comfy bed. The free breakfast was great.

The car park is not close to the accommodation. The nearest car park is small and the road leading to Holland House is very steep and if you have mobility problems then think twice.
The breakfast was fantastic. The gym that is included in the price is fantastic. The rooms are very basic but they are spotless.

The room was incredibly hot but the lady at the reception kindly offered a fan which we left in max for a few hours and managed to sleep comfortably. There were no toiletries due to the sheer amount of last minute bookings. The bathroom was not what we expected but considering these are student accommodations I supposed they’re ok.

Small rooms were very basic, tea/coffee facilities left a lot to be desired given the room was for 2, only had enough to make 1 brew each. Beds not very comfy.
Location as we were there for grandson’s graduation. Disabled shower room was a bonus and parking, as my son is a wheelchair user.

It would have been helpful to have more than the basic amount of tea/ coffee /milk as it was only enough for 2 cuppas! The room was very hot!

The mattress was a bit too hard for me personally. Also the shower temperature didn't change when turning the dial - so it was hot or off basically.

Parking was a nightmare. The instructions were awful. I spent 45 minutes driving round trying to find where to park.

It was difficult to find Holland Hall, even with the description; a map would have been good. The site is sloping and turning round in some parts of the site was difficult after having taken a wrong turn.
Good room and quiet environment (outside term-time) in parkland setting with parking not too far from the entrance. Good staff and an excellent breakfast.

I wish the WI-FI was secured. Also, when I arrived I found only one small bar of soap and no other toiletries. I had to go to reception to get toiletries.
the room was good, very quite and clean. The breakfast was excellent. The WI-FI was strong but unsecured and the instructions to make it more secure did not work. This means I could not do all the work I was supposed to as I needed to handle material that needed a secured WI-FI

Some of the roads lack pavement for pedestrians at least in part.
Wonderful view! Not a long walk to the city. Includes a full breakfast as well as parking. Lifts to some of the blocks. Some spectacular trees around the campus.
