Read more– opens a dialog boxEach review score is between 1 and 10. To get the overall score you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of them. We use a weighted review system, which means the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. Guests can also give separate “subscores” in crucial areas like location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value, and free Wifi. Note that guests submit their subscores and overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an accommodation that you booked through our platform if you stayed there, or if you got to the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialize in detecting fake reviews submitted to our platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team so that our fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we'd publish every review we get, positive and negative. However, we won’t display any reviews that include or refer to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out. We may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old, or if the accommodation has a change of ownership.
An accommodation can reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (e.g. language, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). You can sort and/or filter them by time of year, review score, and more.
Sometimes we show external review scores from other well-known travel websites, but make it clear when we do this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly, without limiting expression or strong opinions. They're also applicable regardless of the comment's tone.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include hate speech, discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, or the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and other similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties, and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options might be available (by type of traveler, by score, etc...).

United KingdomOnly toilet is down the spiral stairs, so need to take care if going during the night, but quickly got used to that.
A home from home with all necessary comforts, kitchen equipment, lots of games, books for adults and children, and a useful selection of walking maps too! Good communication from host and also helpful neighbours.

United KingdomThe spiral staircase is a bit tight - put us off the property a bit. Certainly wouldn’t come with our grandchildren. A shame because everything else was excellent.
It was very comfortable and very handy for the golf course!

United KingdomPorch needs some attention. We reported a wasps nest and bees getting in through an air vent. Garden needs cut back a bit and grass to be mown.
Location was good. Self catering so bought in our own food. Quiet and near the golf club and the centre of Whiting Bay.

United KingdomCottage is spacious, comfortable & quiet, location is excellent, village has all the amenities you need & Brodick is only 15-20mins by car if necessary. Arran is easily accessible & therefore is busier than most Scottish islands but has a great deal that interests me, Machrie moor is a must see and there are many other prehistoric sites worth visiting.

United KingdomThe single track road to the property was in poor condition in a number of places so great care needed to be taken to avoid the pot holes.
The cottage was located in a quiet, elevated location above Whiting Bay. It was very homely and well equipped, particularly for self-catering. Products for cleaning, washing machine & dishwasher were provided as well as locally made bathroom products which were lovely. It was very easy to get around the island from here and access the local facilities and attractions.

United KingdomWe were using public transport so the walk up the hill to the cottage each end of day was, at times, a little testing!
The cottage had all the home comforts you would like for a perfect stay. Whiting Bay is a pretty location with a good local food shop and seafront café/restaurant serving excellent food. Everyone we met was pleasant and helpful.

United KingdomNothing really. We enjoyed it all.
My wife, our three young girls and I, had a lovely 10 day family stay at Wee Silverburn. The cottage was located a few minutes walk from the beach, was clean inside and had everything we needed for an enjoyable and comfortable holiday. It was an ideal location for us and we always enjoyed the walk back up the hill at night. We used the car for touring the whole island but used the bus when going to Brodick or Lamlash and the bus stop was also only a few minutes walk from the cottage. We found it to be quite spacious inside and also loved listening to the wee burn first thing in the morning or late at night.

United KingdomThe main downside was access to property, which is up a very steep hill. Directions given for car took quite a long route round by golf course. A very steep hill down to village (tricky if you have any mobility issues). Main thing missing from kitchen was a basin in sink (a lot of the mugs aren't dishwasher safe). This didn't stop us from having a fabulous time on Arran!
This was a charming cottage on the beautiful island of Arran. Very close to Glenashdale falls by Whiting Bay and a good base to visit the island. Cottage was well equipped, rooms were large, heating was easy to use and cottage was warm. Spiral staircase was a lovely feature, with gate at top if needed. Owners made contact before arrival and left a nice wedding anniversary gift for us.

United KingdomWe love star gazing, me my mum and my son do this at home, the night skies are unbelievably clear and I would have loved to stay outside longer and later, however the neighbour does not take kindly to this. This is by no fault of the cottage, just pre-warn future guests, do not talk late at night outside otherwise grumpy chops will be out.
Lovely little cottage, perfect location with plenty of amenities. Smallish kitchen; however we intended dining out every night and only really used for breakfast. Bedrooms are a good size, comfortable and clean. Large living room to relax at the end of a day. excellent parking, we comfortably had 2 cars parked and easy to manoeuvre. Washing machine outside was perfect for get cleaned up, potentially a drier would be ideal as there was limited times where it didn’t rain and would struggle to get things dried, thus said I always pack more than required. This was our final full family trip to Isle of Arran, with my parents getting older so thank you for the experience.

United KingdomMaybe the fridge could be a little bigger, but that is a tiny point.
The utter peace and solitude. The thoughtful touches, like a Roberts Radio. The easy access to stunning Whiting Bay. Just what was needed! A bathroom that works is always nice... and this one did! So many books, games and maps!

United KingdomNot really a dislike as such but we would have loved to have sat outside in the garden more in the evenings (we had mostly nice weather on our holiday!) but as the cottage is right next to a another property without much boundary and has local residents it felt a bit uncomfortable. We did go down to the beach a lot of nights with a bottle instead which was lovely.
The location is above/overlooking the pretty village of Whiting Bay. 5-7 mins walk down a lane to the village. The hill is very steep so getting back up takes a bit longer with a bit more effort, but we are regular walkers so no problem for us. 7 mins drive/bus to Lamlash and 15 min drive/bus to Brodick. The bus stop is at the bottom of the lane and the service on the island is one of the best we have experienced in our travels around Scotland. Owners communication was excellent. Including directions on how to get to the cottage by car which was a little tricky driving up a single track/pot holed lane and without the directions I would have never found it! Really large cottage with front room and back room/dining room area. 3 bedrooms (although we only needed the one, it would be ideal for larger families), As well as a conservatory and a garden. Kitchen had pretty much every thing we would need for our stay. Private car parking. Overall, a very decent cottage for a holiday.

United KingdomWe were disappointed that the house description didnt make clear that the third bedroom was accessed through the second bedroom and only separated by a partition. If it wasnt for that all the ratings would have been excellent, including how quickly the TV problems were sorted out
