The location was great and opposite a very good Italian restaurant.. The cooked breakfast was excellent and the staff were lovely..

Sadly our “double room” should actually be a single room. Far too small for two people. The towels were stained and shower had mould and limescale. The staff were amazing though and changed the towels and were generally helpful.

The food was delicious and food size portions. The staff were friendly and helpful.

Our room was very hot and we couldn't work out how to use the air conditioning. Maybe a note on the wall (like the ones for the shower) would be useful.

We loved its quirkiness, the beds were very comfortable. The staff were great, especially after arriving so late because of issues with red funnel. It was great value for money, and breakfast was lovely and set us up for the day.

Nothing stood out, that we didn’t like.

The food was very nice, both during dinner and breakfast and the staff were very friendly.

First impression wasn't too good. We arrived earlier than the check in time and asked if I could leave my bag whilst I go out. I was told there was a £5 charge! Many hotels, and even airbnb keep luggage for guests after check out so I thought this was quite excessive. The room was ok, it's an old building but the furnishing could have been better. The chest of drawers were wobbly whenever I opened the drawers, they could have made it more stable. The worst part was the shower, it was very small I couldn't even stretch my elbows out without touching both sides. The shower curtain was hung up with an extendable pole and there was a gap at the bottom, the floor was wet after showering and I had to place the bath mat further away to keep that dry. That meant I either had to step on a wet floor first or try to leap onto a dry bath mat, both are accidents waiting to happen.

Room was nice, was waiting to be updated. Air con was a bonus. Seating area outside which was very nice as it was a hot day for a drink.

I was with several friends, all of whom (bar one) stayed at the Wheatsheaf as it was handy for days out, by bus and for walking. Being so close to the bus station, hub of the Island network, was ideal. Some of us started the stay with a full breakfast (and I with porridge) but it was a hot and humid week, so I stayed with poached egg and toast, and plenty of tea. Three of us felt the need for Marmite, and fresh fruit, and arranged supplies from a nearby supermarket. We did try the cask ale - the Butcombe Original was fine - and stayed for dinner the first evening. While I usually headed up to bed by 10PM, the others were happily playing pool and enjoying beer and wine until much later on successive nights.

The absence of fresh fruit and Marmite! It did tend to be a bit noisy into the evening, but the gulls early morning were outside of any control. In my bedroom at the far end of the second floor, there was a persistent noise of what sounded like running water filling a tank - mostly early morning - which meant that once I woke (early morning anyway, around 5AM), dozing until time for a shower and breakfast wasn't an option.

    Clean room and friendly staff

Single room size was OK but the shower was far too narrow for an average size adult. The single bed mattress was very uncomfortable.

    Breakfast was good, friendly staff.

The window didn't open in our room. A fan was provided, but I found it quite noisy to sleep with it all night. There's no parking at the wheatsheaf, one of the staff advised us to park at the multiple storey car park opposite., it's an old building, all lifts were broken so no good if you have mobility issues. You can only park for 12 hours, it closes at 7 pm. It was no good for us because we wanted a 24-hour car park, which we found 5 minutes away, £8 .

    Excellent breakfast and helpful staff

Advice on arrival for services such as WiFi and breakfast times, building access outside of opening hours. We were left to figure it out for ourselves. They really could help guests and themselves with even just a printed guide in each room.
