How guest reviews work
Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We use a weighted review system which means that the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
- Politically sensitive comments
- Promotional content
- Illegal activities
- Personal or sensitive information (e.g. emails, phone numbers or credit card info)
- Swear words, sexual references, hate speech, discriminatory remarks, threats, or references to violence
- Spam and fake content
- Animal cruelty
- Impersonation (e.g. if the writer is claiming to be someone else)
- Any violation of our review guidelines.
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
Guidelines and standards for Reviews
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

Verified reviewNothing bad from start to finish
The Ro hotel provided the most disappointing start to our stay in the Lakes, starting with the unhelpful and rude receptionist things just went downhill from there, including a manager who was more interested in talking to the barman about himself rather than letting customers get served, a dirty bedroom that didn't even have the coffee making products in it and once we mentioned we couldn't make coffee we were told to go to reception and collect them ourselves. If you want your room serviced which is not an automatic option you need to put a sign on the door handle for this to be done, which I don't totally disagree with but when no door sign is available is very annoying, the towel rail was so dirty I could write my name in it. The smell of damp in many areas of the hotel is quite unpleasant along with the general lack of cleaning and dusting. The evening menu is minimal and most bar snack menus have a wider choice. There were however two very pleasant member of staff a trainee receptionist who was greeting everyone with a smile and had she greeted us maybe our initial impression would have been better, and the morning host in the restaurant. Unfortunately the rest of the staff didn't appear to be interested in any kind of customer care.

Verified reviewLocation and view is great. Clean and good sized bedroom and bathroom. Plenty of options on the restaurant menu, which was also available in the bar. Dinner was good and not over priced. Reception, bar and restaurant staff were welcoming and interested in guests having a good time.
Buffet style breakfast wasn't great. The hot food wasn't hot, the fruit juice was a concentrate and the restaurant staff struggled to keep up with replenishing, food and crockery e.g. tea pots. These are observations and not complaints.

Verified reviewThe hotel was lovely! The entrance, bar and restaurant were something you would like in a city lovely and stylish. The corridor to the rooms could do with a touch ups and new carpet. The staff were lovely and very welcoming and friendly. Great price with lovely breakfast although the room you get the breakfast from is a touch small so you have to manoeuvre around other people.
The accessible room shower area was a bit dirty. Breakfast area quite small although seating space was lovely!

Verified reviewModern, clean, nice bar and restaurant. Good location only 5 mins from town centre.
Car park very overcrowded but with no management. Awful parking by guests very frustrating and could be solved with some simple lines drawn to mark spaces correctly.

Verified reviewOne of the younger supervisors was very nice. Genuinely interested when making conversation.
The property is very run down and needs some serious TLC. Our room was always slightly damp and throughout the night there was a constant beeping noise. There were cobwebs in the bathroom with their little creators still living in them. There’s an off smell in the downstairs corridors to the rooms. At night, on the bottom floor, it is like you’re staying below a heard of elephants, and every visit to the toilet can be heard. Not conducive to a good nights sleep.

Verified reviewGreat location and views. Excellent buffet breakfast and friendly staff. We upgraded to a lake view which was definitely a highlight. Spacious, quiet room was lovely. Comfy bed and nice linens.
Everything extra. Parking, use of pool and gym and a very expensive dinner with poor selection of wine which meant we only had breakfast in the hotel. Our upgraded room was shabby, botched repairs and paintwork and the fridge didn’t work. We asked twice for it be be fixed or exchanged but nothing happened. Disappointing. Parking is a free for all, despite paying daily. Not enough spaces. Wifi sketchy in the whole town.

Verified reviewLocation, standard of finish, breakfast, comfortable modern facilities. Requested to move rooms due to the room being offered having very little natural light, moved us without hassle.
Parking, parking charges, original room offered at the rear of the property was very dark and a poor reflection of property’s standard. We would have been very unlikely to stay again if we hadn’t been relocated.

Verified reviewNice bedding!
Not being told about the incredibly steep hill. Definitely not 4*. Threadbare, dirty, stained carpets. No assistance/porter service. Having to use two separate lifts to get to the second floor. No room service. A charge of £25 for 2 hours access to pool/gym. Complained to hotel several times about the constantly high volume of the TV from the room above, starting at 6am, yet it continued. This resulted in our leaving a day early therefore ruining our holiday.
