Signage! My sat nav took me anywhere but where I was meant to be! I think more signs leading to it as im sure my car is t the only one doing it and my phone lost its serivce. A local man advised after a long time looping! Only then next day when walking did I find a clear cut route and feel absolutely stupid! But still, more signs! 🤣

The price at this time of year, excellent, especially for Britain. The location is remote and quiet. The hostel was quiet at night, had a great sleep. (A Cockerell will however wake you early!) Bed and pillow comfortable. Very clean. Great facilities and a Hot shower! Lovely walk down to Elterwater and great base for the surrounding areas. Beautiful property. Didn't eat here so can't comment on food / breakfasts

That we arrived after dark - too late to appreciate the setting. But seriously, it is a youth hostel, it is not supposed to offer luxuries and you know that when booking a room.

In the most beautiful corner of the Lake District. Wonderful mansion, dedicated staff.

Ventilation in the male dorm room could use some improvement

The hostel is situated in a very nice place surrounded by forests far away from traffic roads so it’s an extraordinairy quite place, in the evening you only hear the owls in the forest.. the building is a nice and atmospheric former Victorian hunting lodge with a lot of old architectural elements and lots of space. The staff is very helpful and friendly, the meals were very good, I stayed there for a week and had a pleasant stay, it’s incredible value for money and I would strongly recommend it!

Showers barely worked. Black out blinds in the rooms would be nice. Snoring lady in my room, I wish snorers could be in seperate rooms.

Great location, good breckfast for additional cost. Great value for money.

Bedroom was very smelly (dorm room). The windows wouldn't open very far to mitigate this. The shower wasn't hot. Not freezing and quite powerful but not hot either. The tables in the dining area are very sticky (although they do clean them, so not sure why?!).

Lovely friendly staff, great facilities including dining options and games, interesting old building, can't fault it for the price- great value.

The only downside is it can get pretty loud when ppl move about as it is an old building. Aside from that, I had a wonderful stay.

Recommend. The location almost right at the top of the hill provides one of the best view in the Lakes for budget travellers. The staffs are super friendly, professional, and welcoming to all guests. They also done a good job at keeping the shared spaces very clean. Plenty of space to relax outside of the dorms/rooms. The building is Historic Victorian exlansion to the 16th century farm house which is a perfect backdrop for a lovely group photo! Parts of the inside has also been kept to character as well. It serves to really enhance the experience of your stay for those into history.

Dorm was noisy and very difficult to sleep in. People with load notifications on their phones at all times of night. Just need to be more considerate.

Lovely location. Perfect for ultra I was doing. Nice outdoor space. Fantastic walks right on and just outside the grounds.

The internet could be improved to reach more places eg on verandah and in the rooms.

Our first hostel stay. Super friendly greeting by Zoe. All staff made us feel very welcome. Place was very clean. Lots of different areas to sit. Plenty of room. Lots of other guests but never felt crowded. Well equipped kitchen. Excellent location. We chose to stay an extra night.

Nothing to comment on. At £15-£22 a night, you're getting the real hostel experience.

Staff are very helpful, friendly, and hardworking. The hostel is wonderful.....old, traditional, a bit rough at some edges adding to the charm. Location is spectacular for outdoor activities. Great self-catering kitchen, drying room. Comfy bed. English breakfast is exceptional. Even when it's busy there is so much space for everyone. A highly recommended stay.
