How guest reviews work
Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We use a weighted review system which means that the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
- Politically sensitive comments
- Promotional content
- Illegal activities
- Personal or sensitive information (e.g. emails, phone numbers or credit card info)
- Swear words, sexual references, hate speech, discriminatory remarks, threats, or references to violence
- Spam and fake content
- Animal cruelty
- Impersonation (e.g. if the writer is claiming to be someone else)
- Any violation of our review guidelines.
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
Guidelines and standards for Reviews
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

Verified reviewThe best thing was the affordability of the accommodation. I shared a bunk room with my daughter which was small but beds were new and all decorated recently. Breakfast was perhaps overpriced at £10 extra each since it was a limited choice and quality, but they did manage to offer a hot selection and it was convenient.

Verified reviewExcellent location, value for money for the night for a family room.
The hot water from the tap in the sink wasn't getting very warm. There were no individual lamps on the beds as you normally get in other YHA's but other than that it was what was expected for a budget friendly stay.

Booked Three singles beds, but got very small room with double bed and single on the top. For three adults was too small, but we managed as it was only one night. Would not stay more in that room.

Verified reviewLocation excellent Cost brilliant Bed really comfy. Some of fixtures a bit dated and needing updating. Great cooked breakfast.
I've checked online to check their policy after I came back. And okay... It was their policy to allow transgender to stay. But it was a little odd that a transgender was staying in an all women dormitory... Overnight with no staff present overnight. I was okay with idea... But I could see some of the other dormitory residents were not entirely relaxed about it. Yes! Their is inclusivity. But you never know if a woman has suffered previous abuse before and what would normally be a safe woman only environment was now deemed as unsafe for them. No other dorm resident was asked by staff if it was okay - or if they needed to change rooms by staff. They were literally left to find out the situation themselves when they weren't up to room at night ready for bed. I'm sure the supreme court has said that safe areas for women should be gender by birth - not gender by choice. So I'm left with the question... Surely an all women dormitory should need classed as such a safe area?
Thank you for sharing your concerns regarding the accommodation policy in our all-women dormitory. I understand that this situation can be sensitive and may cause discomfort for some guests. We strive to create an inclusive environment while also respecting the feelings and safety of all our guests. Your feedback is valuable, and I will ensure it is passed on to the management team for further consideration. If you have any more questions or need assistance, please feel free to reach out.

Verified reviewRooms were functional and comfortable. Loved the self-catering kitchen, really handy. Surprisingly quiet at night considering it is a hostel. The bed was comfy and managed a decent sleep for the 2 nights we were there. Location was brilliant. Less than 10 minutes to the sea front and shops. Tesco literally around the corner. Plenty of parking but does fill up quickly.
The reception is shut between 10am-5pm. We arrived at 4 pm and needed to check in and get to a concert almost an hour away, but we had to sit waiting. Otherwise, we wouldn't have gotten our key as we would have been back after 10pm when it closes again.

Beds were awful!! Too hard and all singles. Breakfast expensive and the ‘hot food’ was cold and wasnt allowed to help ourselves like anywhere else.
Maria, thank you for taking the time to review your recent stay. I'm sorry to hear that you had problems with the beds and with our breakfast offering. The majority of our bedrooms do have bunk beds or single beds only. We do have a few rooms around the building that have double beds in them, they can be identified by room type when you book (5 bed double or 3 bed double) if you would prefer. Our unlimited breakfast is £9.95 and is available between 0730 and 0930. You can help yourself to the hot drinks, juices, cereals, yoghurts, compete, fresh fruit, toast, croissants and pain aux chocolat. The hot buffet (sausages, bacon, vegan sausages, hash browns, fried eggs, baked beans and tomatoes) is served by a staff member and that is the case across all YHA's in England & Wales but you are welcome to have as much as you like. I'm so sorry to hear that the hot breakfast wasn't served hot. Please do speak to staff at the counter if that ever happens again, they do replenish the food often and would be happy to replace it for you. I have spoken with the kitchen team to make sure that we are getting that right. Thank you again for your time.
