How guest reviews work
Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We use a weighted review system which means that the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
- Politically sensitive comments
- Promotional content
- Illegal activities
- Personal or sensitive information (e.g. emails, phone numbers or credit card info)
- Swear words, sexual references, hate speech, discriminatory remarks, threats, or references to violence
- Spam and fake content
- Animal cruelty
- Impersonation (e.g. if the writer is claiming to be someone else)
- Any violation of our review guidelines.
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
Guidelines and standards for Reviews
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

Verified reviewThe host was kind and flexible, the room was clean and gave us a place to rest on our trekking trip. The food was tasty (especially the shuka egg tomato dish at breakfast)
While the food tasted good, it was a bit pricier compared to other places on the trek (45 lari per person instead of 30-35 lari), it was vegetarian (whereas other places offered meat), and the portions were a bit small for sharing family style at dinner. It was very crowded when we were there; maybe 15-20 people sharing 2 bathrooms so we had to wait in line almost every time. The mattress was extremely firm which was not our preference

Verified reviewGunter Guest House is an authentic experience along the trail from Mestia to Ushguli. The house was very clean, cozy and essential. We had the luck of being there while the host was Anna, who could speak Italian which made everything easier and gave us the opportunity to ask many questions and get to understand much more about the place and its surroundings. I was pleasantly surprised, especially after reading some unfair reviews. I'm afraid that not all the travelers understand the Adishi context. Along the trail this is the most rural place you will encounter. Residents are opening their homes to tourists providing everything that is possible to give them in a remote area without proper roads and facilities. Prices may be "higher" compared to less rural villages but the residents also have higher expenses to get that they need to run their guesthouse. Don't be afraid to ask if you think something is lacking and you will get everything you need, just like we did. If you expect to stay in a fancy place you are definitely in the wrong place, if you are searching for an authentic and memorable experience in a simple and humble rural mountain village you are in the right place instead.

Verified reviewThe property was very rustic and charming, built by the owners grandfather. The staff were warm, welcoming and helpful. The food was tasty and I was provided with vegan options for breakfast, lunch and dinner. The guesthouse had a good atmosphere and nice mix of people. Facilities were basic but comfortable
The bathroom could do with a shower curtain to stop water getting everywhere

Verified reviewThe family / staff were very helpful and friendly. The breakfast they served was fresh and homemade. The overall value for money was good (accommodation + food).
The facilities were old and broken. The toilet and shower were both broken (the bath base was very wobbly and you could easily have fallen over; toilet cistern was constantly flushing). The meals were the most expensive we had on the Mestia - Ushguli hike (40 GEL each for breakfast, 40 GEL each for dinner and 10 GEL for a very basic lunch). The rooms we had didn't have any windows (so no fresh air).
Thank you for staying at our family guesthouse and for sharing your impressions. It is very important to us to offer our guests only fresh, homemade meals — we do not use frozen or pre-made products. Our food prices reflect both the work we put in and the high-quality ingredients we purchase. Our house is old and keeps its authentic style, which is especially appreciated by guests who seek the genuine village atmosphere. For those who prefer modern comfort, there are also plenty of new and well-equipped houses in the village. The toilet and bathroom are in good working order, safe, and clean — we take care of them daily. Once again, thank you for your feedback, and we wish you a pleasant journey!

Verified reviewI stayed in the 10 bed dorm and had a great time. The staff were very welcoming, spoke multiple languages and made sure that I felt comfortable. The guesthouse was very clean, with good WiFi and comfortable beds and showers. Although I decided not to buy dinner and breakfast, I wasn't treated any differently, and the smells coming from the kitchen made me wonder if I had made a mistake. I wouldn't hesitate to stay there again.
There are two bathrooms for the whole guesthouse, which can be problematic at times.

Verified reviewSeemed like a good location and a beautiful old house
When we arrived after a long day of hiking unfortunately they had given away our booked room so they called a neighbour guest house to have us stay there. However they wanted us to return to their house for dinner and breakfast (for a cost). We made it clear if we were staying elsewhere we wanted to eat there (also more fair to this guesthouse!) but this seemed like an issue so they had to haggle with the new guesthouse owner for quite a while whilst we waited exhausted. Eventually they relented and we could stay and eat in the neighbouring house - which was great so a massive thank you to the kind and patient neighbour!
Thank you for your feedback. We're truly sorry for the confusion upon your arrival — it was not due to carelessness but rather a temporary communication issue, as we work remotely with the Gunter Guesthouse and the information was not updated in time. That said, we did everything possible to resolve the situation quickly and responsibly. We arranged alternative accommodation just a few steps away and personally coordinated with the host there to ensure you would be comfortable and, if possible, provided with meals. The brief delay in confirming the food option was only because we needed to clarify whether the new host could accommodate this — there was no bargaining involved, just coordination. We're glad that, in the end, you were satisfied with the alternative arrangement. We believe that the outcome also reflects our effort and dedication to making sure your stay was pleasant despite the initial issue. That's why we feel a 1-star rating does not reflect the full picture or the care we put into resolving the situation. We always welcome honest feedback, and we'll continue working hard to provide a great experience for all our guests.
