Each review score is between 1 and 10. To get the overall score you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of them. We use a weighted review system, which means the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. Guests can also give separate “subscores” in crucial areas like location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value, and free Wifi. Note that guests submit their subscores and overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an accommodation that you booked through our platform if you stayed there, or if you got to the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialize in detecting fake reviews submitted to our platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team so that our fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we'd publish every review we get, positive and negative. However, we won’t display any reviews that include or refer to (among other things):
- Politically sensitive comments
- Promotional content
- Illegal activities
- Personal or sensitive info (e.g. emails, phone numbers, credit card info)
- Swear words, sexual references, hate speech, discriminatory remarks, threats, or references to violence
- Spam and fake content
- Animal cruelty
- Impersonation (i.e. if the writer is claiming to be someone else)
- Any violation of our review guidelines.
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out. We may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old, or if the accommodation has a change of ownership.
An accommodation can reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (e.g. language, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). You can sort and/or filter them by time of year, review score, and more.
Sometimes we show external review scores from other well-known travel websites, but make it clear when we do this.
Guidelines and Standards for Reviews
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly, without limiting expression or strong opinions. They're also applicable regardless of the comment's tone.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. The shower cubicle was very small so curtain tends to attack you :) Some of the sunbeds could do with updating as ripping on the seams.
Great location, lovely size pool, rooms basic but enough for our holiday. Breakfast was good and the staff happy to help with any requests.

All good!
The Bastas is perfectly located for a relaxing break - minutes from the centre of Lakka with a range of excellent tavernas. The pool is a good size and never busy even at the height of the season. Yes, it's a bit rough around the edges, but that's the Greek rustic, laid-back charm. Would recommend!

There was no lift, and no offer of help to carry our suitcases to our room. The bathroom was very small. The flooring in the bathroom and some of the furniture in our room was looking tired. Pool towels were not provided but were available at an extra cost. The breakfast is not worth €10 per person per day. We only tried it once. Cold omelette, white pre sliced bread with cheap ham and cheese and cornflakes. There was an additional charge to use the in-room safe.
Good location for the town and it was nice to have a pool. Our room was a reasonable size and it was handy having a fridge and kettle. We didn’t use the toaster or mini oven, also in the room. Communication with the hotel prior to our stay was also good.

Great location with very friendly staff. The rooftop pool area was lovely and the hotel's location meant that it was an easy walk down to the harbour to the various restaurants or to walk along to the nearest beach. Perfect for a relaxing holiday.

Just a little bit old furniture. no elevator.
The staff was very friendly. Breakfast was good, nice. Plenty of options. Didn't use the pool. The view was nice. nice bonus kitchen inside. The owner was friendly and wise.

A bit old fashioned and basic in the rooms and hotel.
The closeness to the town, great swimming pool and book library was a big plus. Rooms were big enough and balconies had a permanent clothesline which was also very useful.

The wifi was quite patchy - I needed to stand in a specific place to video call. Just something to note if you're planning to work whilst there.
Very helpful staff who promptly sent me through ferry schedules and arranged collection and return drop off for only 30 euros. The location is perfect - use the back entrance and hike to Orkos beach for a sunset swim (20 minutes). Whilst the hotel is quite dated, the cleaning team leave the rooms spotless.

Staff agreed we could leave bags at their office until 9pm then announced mid afternoon that we needed to collect them by 5pm (due to national holiday). Thankfully we stayed in town but if we hadn't it would have been a lot of hassle.
10/15 mins to old town and 2 mins to bus station. Air con in all rooms and washing machine.

Everything was great - maybe 🤔 there could be an option to have an earlier breakfast before 9 am “? but that is such a small thing and didn’t mar our stay .!
We left too early for breakfast! All your staff were very friendly and attentive. Thanks to the owner/ manager who set up a cables for us to charge our ebikes- incredibly helpful so we could have charged bikes en route back to Gaos.!

The rooms are a bit basic, but ok. The kitchen area is very small but fine for drinks and snacks.
