How guest reviews work
Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We use a weighted review system which means that the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
- Politically sensitive comments
- Promotional content
- Illegal activities
- Personal or sensitive information (e.g. emails, phone numbers or credit card info)
- Swear words, sexual references, hate speech, discriminatory remarks, threats, or references to violence
- Spam and fake content
- Animal cruelty
- Impersonation (e.g. if the writer is claiming to be someone else)
- Any violation of our review guidelines.
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
Guidelines and standards for Reviews
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

Verified reviewAmazing location!
We were really looking forward to our stay, especially given the premium price point, naturally, we expected a high standard of service. While the property itself has great potential, unfortunately the experience was let down by consistently poor service, which in my view makes all the difference. Our ground-floor room lacked any sort of view, which was fine, but it was also missing several basic comforts that would have made the space feel more welcoming, no full-length mirror, a broken toilet flusher top, and no table or chair to sit and work or do makeup. Staff presence was minimal, both in person and via WhatsApp, where responses were slow and unhelpful. Breakfast had the potential to be a highlight with its beautiful terrace views, but it consistently missed the mark — from missing plates and cups to an out-of-service cappuccino machine and no one around to take requests. On the day of checkout, reception wasn’t even staffed at 10:30 AM. All in all, I wouldn’t return or recommend this property. There are better options available at this price point that deliver both service and experience.
Thank you very much for your review and for taking the time to share your feedback. It’s clear that your stay at our property was a matter of strong concern to you from the moment of your arrival, as shown by the ongoing complaints and requests you expressed throughout your time with us. Allow us to clarify a few key points, so that future guests can have a more balanced and accurate picture of the experience we offer. The room you stayed in is actually one of the most loved and highly rated in our historic mansion, as reflected in dozens of positive guest reviews across all major platforms. It features a full-sized mirror inside the room, and the bathroom includes both a standard mirror and a dedicated makeup mirror with lighting. The toilet flush mechanism was fully functional and had in fact been recently replaced before your arrival. Regarding the presence of staff, we were consistently available to assist you, both in person and via message. As proof of this, we made reservations for you at no fewer than three different restaurants on Hydra during your stay — and even at a restaurant on another island after you had already checked out. We did so happily, even though this service was well beyond our obligations. As for breakfast, the machine you described as “out of order” was the same machine that prepared your daily cappuccino with almond milk, exactly as requested, and at no extra charge. We genuinely regret that your overall experience did not meet your expectations, but we feel it’s important to clarify the reality of the situation. We always strive to offer warmth, attentiveness, and prompt service to our guests, and this was certainly the case during your stay.

Breakfast staff were not very helpful, lady on morning of Friday 27th September should not be in that role in our view.

Verified reviewA beautiful little hotel that has captured its history with original wood walls, antiques throughout and yet updated for modern comfort. Also the breakfast was plentiful and good.
My only complaint is that the door to our room was tough to handle, especially with weakened 'old' hands. But by the end of our stay, I think I finally figured out how to work the lock and door handle.

Verified reviewBeautiful building that has been sensitively renovated. Nice breakfast, very quiet, no street noise.
The steps up to reception. A sign saying leave your luggage at the street level would avoid unnecessary handling.

Verified reviewBeautifully decorated, intimate and cosy with all modern cons - absolute heaven and I slept so well! I’ve been to Hydra a number of times and this is now by far my preferred place to stay.
Nothing at all, it really is a gem!

Verified reviewNice location- gentle slope from port - big room - exceptionally good quality bedding and towels- very friendly manager/owner
I didn’t like not having any outside space to room- however this was my choice as other rooms that had outside space were on 2 floors. breakfast wasn’t to my taste as a lot of sweet stuff- to be honest though I find this in most Greek hotels - so more a taste thing on my part

Verified reviewThe atmosphere, the breakfast, Giannis who went above and beyond to make our stay a memorable one.
We’ve been coming for a few years now and it feels like home, but the hotel is a bit outdated and needs a little renovation

Verified reviewThe hotel is beautiful. There are so many antiques decorating the building. Breakfast was amazing every morning. The staff could not have been friendlier. The walk to the hotel did not have stairs you just had to be careful walking on the stone road.
It was a hike up the road, but by the third day it wasn't so bad.

Verified reviewThe heritage of the building and the sympathetic renovations.
The breakfast was ordinary compared to the many other places we stayed. The eggs were watery, the coffee was lukewarm and when the staff were asked if they could warm it, it seemed like too much trouble.
