Our stay at Hotel El Greco in Igoumenitsa was a truly good experience. The hotel, likely built in the 1980s, carries a charming, familiar atmosphere that makes you feel instantly at home. What truly sets it apart is the extraordinary kindness of the staff, a reflection of the generous and resilient spirit of the Greek people. Despite the economic challenges imposed by both national and European policies, which have made entrepreneurship and local business increasingly difficult, the team at El Greco continues to move forward with admirable determination. The hotel is gradually renovating its rooms, and we were lucky to receive a complimentary upgrade to one of the newly refurbished ones modern, comfortable, and tastefully done. Located right at the port of Igoumenitsa, the hotel is a perfect base for exploring the surrounding areas, whether you're heading to the islands or discovering the beauty of Epirus. We wish the entire team at Hotel El Greco the very best in their future. Warm regards and best of luck!

You can eat up to late in the night even if the surrounding area has many businesses that have been closed for quite some time. Running a business in Greece is not easy. With a 23% VAT and the introduction of a new eco-tax, it's becoming increasingly difficult—some might even say absurd. This is especially surprising given that the area is naturally very busy, thanks to the nearby port and its proximity to the borders with Albania and North Macedonia. I believe the Greek people may soon grow frustrated with these burdens.

    Close to the port.

Staff not helpful. Could not change the temperature on the air conditioning and staff was not willing to change it and fix it.

Location. Breakfast - basic, but ok.

The property is very run down. We were shown one of their standard double rooms - absolutely horrible. We asked to see their suite room - this was new and very comfortable with amazing view. Cost twice as much, but worth it. You get what you pay for.

Nothing like described, yes there’s a portion which has been renovated, and another which hasn’t. The one that hasn’t looked acceptable in the photos, in reality I had a micro bed suitable only for a child. The mattress was disgustingly stiff, this was the worst sleep of my life, every piece of ceramic in the bathroom has been cracked. I’ve had better experiences sleeping when camping. 100% avoid.

    Bathroom, bed, the whole room.

Breakfast was nice! Lots of options

Not to their fault, but the hotel didn’t have sheets ready due to the dryer breaking down. The hotel room was also somewhat difficult to get into due to issues with the key; the key was also tied to a piece of metal that looked like a heavy chest piece

Nice location, nice breakfast, kind stuff.

No chairs or table in the balcony, the bathroom was in a really bad contrition and needs a renovation. The room had two separate semi-rooms, one of which had no window or access to the balcony. It’s ok if you just sleep a night there.

We stayed at the front renovated double room overlooking the port which was spacious, clean, comfortable and very well done. The view from the bed itself is stunning and so is the balcony view. Excellent location, 5 mins away from the port and with loads of cafes, restaurants and bars nearby. Owner is a lovely, kind person and overall we enjoyed the stay. Noting however that the hit itself might feel dated and worn, again sth that the owner is trying to change gradually.

Price is good, breakfast is alright.

There was no parking space when I arrived and that cost us an extra 30 minutes to check in after being tired from a trip and all we needed was some rest. Staff tried to help and eventually found a solution. Around 1-3 am there was someone screaming on his balcony for a couple of hours, kept the whole hotel up and was the talk of the day during breakfast. No apology or explanation was offered from the hotel. I'm sure random screaming at night isn't what you typically expect at this hotel but some explanation should be offered.

Fairly basic but was priced accordingly. Good location, peaceful and comfortable nights sleep.

Needs a bit of updating but we knew that from photos.
