How guest reviews work
Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We use a weighted review system which means that the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
- Politically sensitive comments
- Promotional content
- Illegal activities
- Personal or sensitive information (e.g. emails, phone numbers or credit card info)
- Swear words, sexual references, hate speech, discriminatory remarks, threats, or references to violence
- Spam and fake content
- Animal cruelty
- Impersonation (e.g. if the writer is claiming to be someone else)
- Any violation of our review guidelines.
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.

Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.

I booked a stay at Best Western Plus Embassy Hotel in Athens for two nights (August 23 – 25), but from the moment I entered the room, I encountered several serious issues: The hotel was visibly outdated and did not meet the standards of a four-star property. While there was shampoo provided near the sink, the bottle in the bathroom itself was empty. When I pointed this out to the receptionist, she was very polite and promptly brought a replacement to my room. According to the listed facilities, a toothbrush should have been available in the bathroom. When I asked the staff, they politely informed me that I needed to request it if needed. However, based on my experience with similar hotels, I believe it should have been provided in the bathroom by default, regardless of whether I ended up using it. This was also not mentioned anywhere in the booking information or instructions when I reserved the room. The in-room telephone was outdated and completely non-functional, forcing me to use my personal phone to contact the reception. During breakfast, while seated at my table, I noticed a dead cockroach under the mirror just a few meters away. I immediately informed the receptionist, who was once again very polite and responsive in addressing the matter. Given these circumstances, it was impossible for me to continue my stay, so I decided to check out immediately. Without any further discussion, the hotel promptly processed a refund for the second night. I would like to emphasize that the staff were very polite and professional during check-in, check-out, and every interaction I had. However, the overall condition of the hotel was simply unacceptable and did not justify either the price or the four-star rating. I sincerely hope this feedback helps the management take the necessary actions to ensure that future guests do not encounter such a disappointing experience.

Verified reviewThe Best Western was average at best and doesn’t justify its 4-star rating — it feels more like a 2.5-star hotel. The room furniture is outdated, the elevator only fits two people, and the lobby furniture is worn and needs replacing. On the bright side, the breakfast was excellent, and the staff were very helpful. Overall, the hotel is in serious need of renovations.

The elevator could only take 2 people at a time, the breakfast was very very poor, the main room had no air conditioning, the sofa were very old and not clean, the neighbourhood had an electric outage and the hotel had no generator so we had to climb 6 fours up and down with no lights, no breakfast, etc… this is not a 4 star hotel

My room was overpriced for what it offered. It’s also a little annoying not to have free drinking water when it is very hot outside. In other 4 star hotels, cold drinking water is usual supplied for free. Breakfast was pretty basic as well.

Verified reviewThe price for one night before my flight home. Hoping “Best” Western would live up to it’s name. Front desk advised and booked taxi for next morning.
Shabby room without functioning air conditioner on 3rd floor. At first apparently helpful front desk clerk gaslit me over the non-functional AC, offered me a fan and finally after further firm protest, moved me to a room on 4th fl. With a working AC and a sink that doesnt slant downwards. Daytime temperature was 96F so AC essential and expected. Breakfast not ready until 7:30am so I didnt benefit.
