How guest reviews work
Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We use a weighted review system which means that the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
- Politically sensitive comments
- Promotional content
- Illegal activities
- Personal or sensitive information (e.g. emails, phone numbers or credit card info)
- Swear words, sexual references, hate speech, discriminatory remarks, threats, or references to violence
- Spam and fake content
- Animal cruelty
- Impersonation (e.g. if the writer is claiming to be someone else)
- Any violation of our review guidelines.
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
Guidelines and standards for Reviews

Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.

Verified reviewThe staff was incredibly kind and helpful. The breakfast was great and rooms were nice.
Only downside is it's about a 45 minute walk to Oia. If you rent a car/ATV, only a 5 minute drive. They also have a driver available to take you places around the island.

The location very close to Oia but without The noise and crowds of people of the city, 1 min away from the beach.The facilities, great swimming pool, very nice breakfast and the apartment was really nice and cozy. Violet the owner was into all the details to make our stay comfortable. If you do not have a car, Giannis the hotel driver is the best option for you. Always punctual, willing to help and with a big smile in his face. I would highly recommend it!!

Verified reviewEverything about Mare Nostrum Santo is fabulous! It is a small family run hotel just on the edge of Oia. Violet and Giannis are wonderful hosts and go above and beyond to make you feel welcome. They offer a good breakfast, a beautiful pool, and a very affordable car service to and from Oia and the airport. Also, you can get an uninterrupted view of the beautiful Santorini sunset from the rooftop without the crowds of people. I would not hesitate to stay here again Thank you, Violet and Giannis, for making our stay in Santorini so memorable.

I cannot put more than 20 photos which is a shame! we have given it a 2 because the aircon worked and we had the basics after cleaning ourselves. extremely poor quality, facilities need updating and cleaning. Complimentary toiletries are very poor and breakfast ingredients are very basic- cheap sliced bread, cheap thin jam, cooked food stale and cheap, pink processed ham, rubber cheese slices. food not replenished until eveything gone so horrid hard eggs. Asked one day for fresh eggs and although they eventually did it, it was hard work and didn't ask again. a 2 slice toaster which took ages and there was a long queue every morning. Breakfast 1 and a half hours only. Kitchen area was poorly equipped and pans/plates etc were dirty. TV very old and didn't work well. Furnishings basic and uncomfortable. Areas around were full of litter. A non-stop busy road runs at the entrance to property. We paid around a 1000€ for a DELUX BUNGALOW- it was supposed to be 4*! Not in anyway delux and not a bugalow. There was a ladder stair to upstairs- very difficult, and you had to go sideways around the bed, banging shins and toes. impossible to take suitcases up stairs without injury so they lived downstairs. Towels hard and small. The safe was lightweight and not fixed so absolutely useless. Dog friendly- accepted but surely not in breakfast room and pool side! Dogs actually in shallow pool. Tyhe jacuzzi was in a small wooden shed! If we'd paid 400€ we would have not been surprised but this was worse than Butlins! Complained 3 times to BOOKING.COM but yet to receive a reply. 2 couples left early because of the poor quality facilities/food.

However, we must clarify several serious inaccuracies in your review to ensure a fair and truthful representation of your stay. Our breakfast is prepared daily from 07:30 and served from 08:30 to 10:00, using fresh, quality ingredients. Hot items are kept warm in professional heating equipment for health and safety. When you requested fresh eggs, we prepared them immediately. Had you communicated any further preferences, we would have gladly accommodated them — as we always do for all guests. The room you booked is exactly as described, including the internal staircase and layout. The safe was brand new and fully functional. The smart TV was working perfectly, but you seemed unfamiliar with how to operate it. Regarding the air conditioning, we responded promptly and came to assist — the unit was fine, but it had been turned on and off repeatedly, preventing it from starting properly. Housekeeping was allowed to enter your room only twice during your 7-night stay, as you refused access on the remaining days. Despite this, no formal complaint was made at any time during your visit. The toiletries we offer are from the premium Italian brand “Artist Italiani”, not “poor quality” as you claimed. The towels provided are standard hotel size, as is customary in our category. Our pool is large and open-air, and we are a pet-friendly property, clearly stated on our listing. It is normal for guests to have pets with them in the outdoor area, always respectfully. Your claim that “other guests left early due to poor quality” is completely false. All guests during that period — including yourselves — completed their full scheduled stays without reporting major dissatisfaction. In addition, for your birthday, we offered you a complimentary bottle of wine as a kind gesture. Unfortunately, your response was impolite — you told us you didn’t drink it because your wife felt unwell, and when we offered for you to take it with you, you said you had no space in your luggage. Upon arrival, you also expressed frustration about the car rental company you used, complaining about them to us — despite us having no relation to that service. This set the tone for your stay. We also received comments from other guests about your rude behavior towards staff, including during breakfast. From the moment of your arrival, your overall attitude was consistently negative and unkind, with no attempt at communication or cooperation. Not even a simple “good morning” to the staff. Had you shared any of your concerns, we would have made every effort to help. Our team works hard every day with respect and care — and this is reflected in the 700+ positive reviews from guests who truly appreciate our hospitality, cleanliness, and dedication. Verified reviewMy husband and I really appreciated the owners. They were kind and on top of everything. They truly cared about making sure our stay was great. . LOVED not having the crowds because Mare Nostrum Santo was located outside of OIA. You can take the back road to the airport and stay away from the crazy traffic. Also, their breakfast was fantastic.. What a buffet! Great variety. We looked forward to it every morning. The pool area was kept super clean. Water was refreshing in Mid May. The owner makes a great Mojoto at the pool bar.
What I didn't like was having a loft bed with a bathroom downstairs. Being in our 60's, climbing up and down the ladder was a bit much.
