How guest reviews work
Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We use a weighted review system which means that the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
- Politically sensitive comments
- Promotional content
- Illegal activities
- Personal or sensitive information (e.g. emails, phone numbers or credit card info)
- Swear words, sexual references, hate speech, discriminatory remarks, threats, or references to violence
- Spam and fake content
- Animal cruelty
- Impersonation (e.g. if the writer is claiming to be someone else)
- Any violation of our review guidelines.
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
Guidelines and standards for Reviews
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

Verified reviewThe location was closed to shops and ermou and the room was nicely fitted out.
The description of the accomodation stated bath and shower however you had to stand in the bathtub to use the shower hose. This meant the whole room, walls blinds got wet when using the hose attachment. Additionally there were no chairs on the balcony so you could not sit outside.

Verified reviewThe location of this hotel was perfect - right in the centre of Athens surrounded by restaurants and only a 5 minute walk from Monastiraki square. The room was very well decorated and very clean. The staff were so friendly and happy to help in any way they could. I would definitely stay here again.

Verified reviewWe did not use your facility for breakfast
We were afraid to use the toilet as there were instructions not to flush toilet paper down the toilet but rather, use the bin next to the toilet to deposit our dirty paper.. As well, the hose next to the toilet to wash your bottom after using the toilet was not working at all. Other than this, we enjoyed our stay!

Verified reviewLocation, we never needed a taxi or uber
The elevator seemed a little old so we always took the stairs, cleanliness wasn’t great in the room or in general, scarce hygiene at breakfast (guests would drop tongs on the floor and put them back on the buffet table and staff wouldn’t change them), staff at breakfast wasn’t friendly.

Verified reviewLocation is perfect, we were on second floor and given the buzz of the neighborhood it was actually very quiet. The check in process is seamless and very organized. Staff are attentive and really pleasant.
Our room wasn’t very naturally lit and the bathroom spilled so much water which was uncomfortable. Breakfast was included but the selection was really limited. Tiny finger food yoghurt bowls, two options of eggs, bread and spreads. Comparing to other hotels in the area where they have more brunch items and elaborate breakfast dishes this was a bit of a let down. My partner had to check out the night before and we had a small awkward incident where as he was walking out to the street and me behind him (just to say bye to him before he got in the taxi) the receptionist interrogated me about who would pay for the hotel room now that my boyfriend was gone, must have thought we were both leaving which is understandable that he speaks up. However I clearly told him I wasn’t leaving yet just my boyfriend, my checkout was the next morning and that actually everything was already paid as far as I was aware from booking.com. The booking was under my name. After saying bye to my partner; I returned to the reception and gave him the courtesy and time to check his system and inform me of anything outstanding that I could of course pay this at the time of my checkout in the morning, but at the end he wasn’t really able to tell me what was outstanding. When I checked out there were different staff and nothing was actually outstanding. It’s not a major thing but I feel this very awkward interaction could have been handled differently.

Verified reviewI was expecting to see a view of the Acropolis’s as advertised. Instead I stayed in a room on the mezzanine floor. The Spa advertised is under construction. I did not get to use the Spa, it was closed for renovation.
Dear Josephine, We would like to thank you for choosing The Residence Aiolou Hotel and Spa for your recent stay in Athens however we are surpirsed to see your rating as it does not reflect our high quality standards and we would like to address your comments. You wrote at your comment that you were expecting to see a view of the Acropolis. How exactly could the room have a view of Acropolis when you booked the lowest cotegory, the cozy room NO BALCONY. We don't know how else it can be explained more clearly so that you understand that the room does not have balcony and therefore no view. You obviously looked at photos of all the rooms, mainly the more expensive ones that do have a view, but you booked the cheapest one without a balcony. Also the SPA was never closed or under renovation, as it has only been open for two years. Perhaps there wan no availability at the time you wanted and you misunderstood the situation. In closing we would kindly ask you to be more careful in the description of the room you book and to the comments you provide. Kind regards, Nikos Tartanis Hotel Manager
