How guest reviews work
Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We use a weighted review system which means that the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
- Politically sensitive comments
- Promotional content
- Illegal activities
- Personal or sensitive information (e.g. emails, phone numbers or credit card info)
- Swear words, sexual references, hate speech, discriminatory remarks, threats, or references to violence
- Spam and fake content
- Animal cruelty
- Impersonation (e.g. if the writer is claiming to be someone else)
- Any violation of our review guidelines.
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
Guidelines and standards for Reviews
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

Verified reviewThe room was a good size and had both a fan and air conditioning, though the AC comes at an extra cost. The bathroom was decent in size, with strong hot water. Outside the room there’s a small seating area, which is a pleasant spot to relax after a long day. There’s no fridge in the room, but when we asked, the staff kindly let us use some space in their kitchen fridge. The hotel is located right on the main road, so expect early traffic noise along with the usual chickens and dogs—earplugs are useful here. It’s a small town, and you can walk into the centre in just a few minutes, though it’s slightly uphill. Breakfast was not included in our rate, but the menu offered a good variety.

Verified reviewMore of a roadside motel. Despite the booking advertisement stating that AC is included, it is not. Upon arrival the hotel tries to make you pay an additional fee of 100Q a night to get the remote. Located next to a big shed that does local parties on Saturday night. Music blasting until 1AM. Staff aren't very helpful regarding information about the hotel/neighbourhood/activities they sell. They give you a key and leave you to yourself. Booked a Semuc Champey tour via the hotel. Received precisely zero information on what to bring/expect.

Verified reviewVery Nice owner, very helpfull, great breakfast, we could make a reservation for shuttle bus to Antigua
AC as extra cost, we were during the weekend so it was a big party close to - we didn't mind becouse it finished at 12.00 pm, but if You want to go sleep earlier- take ear plugs

Verified reviewVery good breakfast. Nice layout, good staff.
The rooms were very hot- fan provided, but no outlet near the windows, so it was difficult to circulate cool air from outside. AC was extra and pricey.

Verified review- Basic room with comfortable bed. - Bathroom area was spacious with free shampoo. - Has a rack to hang some clothes - Has a standing fan which kept the air flowing. - Breakfast was delicious. I got the tipico breakfast and the bread and eggs in particular was really nice. - I booked the Semuc Champey tour through them and it was a great day!
- Shower was cold to lukewarm with no option to control the temperature if desired. It was hot outside so I didn’t mind lukewarm to cool down. - None of the staff I encountered spoke English at all (my Spanish is basic) so makes for limited interaction and info at check in. - Only cash accepted. I paid for my stay, a tour and a shuttle all in cash, which seriously dwindled the physical money I had. It’s 2025 - credit card should be available as an option. - There was an A/C unit in my room but you need to pay extra to use it. This should come with the rate of the room in a place as hot as Lanquín. I didn’t pay extra so only had the standing fan which was ok and the heat dropped at night but my rating would have been higher if A/C was included.

Verified reviewThe room was spacious and clean. Good AC in the room. 15min walk from the bus station, in the main road
Staff did not speak english, the shower was bad: low pressure and dripping water; expensive for the standards.

Bit on the expensive side. They gave me the family room even though I was solo.

Verified reviewClose to semuc champey, private rooms and bathrooms which is not easy to find in a hostel based town like lanquin. Free parking.
Road to get to it was not great. Power outage for many hours during our stay (not their fault it was the whole town).

Our last morning we had an early departure. The owner felt it was too much trouble to make the normal breakfast for us, it being so early, yet there she was cranking out breakfast after breakfast for a group that also had an early departure. We had toast; they had omelets, toast and fruit.

Verified reviewLovely clean room on first floor, no aircon but good fan, nice breakfast and the staff were helpful.
It's on a busy and noisy part of the road from early morning and we could hear party noise from nearby hostels so be prepared for this otherwise all is good.

Verified reviewThe room was spacious and had plenty of space to hang and put luggage and clothes. Everything was very clean and the owner Is very friendly and helpful.
The location itself is good, you can walk to restaurants and little stores. But in the night it gets very loud. It's not their fault it's just the location. During all hours are dogs barking or roosters screaming. It's coming at all hours. I have a light sleep so for me that was the only thing that was not perfect.
