How guest reviews work
Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We use a weighted review system which means that the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
- Politically sensitive comments
- Promotional content
- Illegal activities
- Personal or sensitive information (e.g. emails, phone numbers or credit card info)
- Swear words, sexual references, hate speech, discriminatory remarks, threats, or references to violence
- Spam and fake content
- Animal cruelty
- Impersonation (e.g. if the writer is claiming to be someone else)
- Any violation of our review guidelines.
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
Guidelines and standards for Reviews
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.

The room was dirty, the bathroom sink was leaking. The tub wasn’t clean, there was mold under the door, and we could hear the outside generators or whatever system that was as near the hotel ( we didn’t get a good sleep in ).

Verified reviewThe property is in a good location, and the staff was friendly trying to do their best.
The property is run down, nothing like the pictures on the website, the room looks like layers of temp repairs, furniture falling apart, the wifi was horrible and non existent, did not have hot water for two days, power kept cycling on and off for entire building, leaks all over the building they had buckets through the lobby and random places, A/C filters have not been cleaned….etc. Not recommended for future travelers.

It’s well understood that the building and facilities are very old, but simple cleaning and attention to details are obviously not a high priority for the Guam Reef Hotel team. A few examples: dead cockroach in the hallway leading to the pool sat there for three days and was still there when we checked out, sun bathing chairs next to the pool have lots of ripped plastic weaving which torn and damaged our swimwear-this could have easily been resolved with some clippers. Room cleaning was always delayed and often was not completed until after 17:00. The hardwood floor in our room was swept but had obviously not had a deep cleaning for quite some time and always left our feet soiled, dust/dirt was found on the couch frame, closet shelves, and corner of the room. Hallway areas were not vacuumed regularly and simple stains were not cleaned. All public bathrooms had black plastic garbage cans in front of the torn out stainless units without any signage to mention temporary construction or a simple apology. Sinks and soap dispenser areas not maintained well. These are just a few of the things I observed, it’s a great location and the staff were quite friendly. I have stayed at many hotels which were built many decades ago, although facilities were dated, simple attention to details and upkeep makes all the difference.

The breakfast had been closed down, which was fine for me since I hadn't purchased it beforehand. However, there is a very good restaurant (Eggs 'n Things) very close to the hotel.

Verified reviewHad a corner room with an excellent view in the middle of town. Perfect location. The hotel had a pool, easy access to the beach, and laundry facilities.
Cleaning staff did not sweep room daily. Also, Guam is very humid and the room dryer was not working.

Verified reviewThis is the worst hotel I have ever stayed in. I have traveled to over 120 countries and several hundred cities, experiencing a variety of accommodations, including homestays, resorts, hotels, yurts, and camps. However, this hotel room had such high humidity that all my clothes in the suitcases were damp. There was no air conditioning in the hallway. The food was horrible, and the staff were rude and unresponsive. The decor was dated. The hotel next door, Dusit Beach Resort, is ten times better than Guam Reef. Both hotels are rated as four-star establishments, but there is a significant difference between them. I ended up staying here because I was part of an adventure abroad tour, and this was the hotel chosen by the tour agency. I extended my stay by one night to explore Guam but didn't want to switch hotels since we had to leave at 4 a.m. to catch our flight.

None of the restaurants or bars in the hotel were open. Told they were being “remodeled” but highly doubt that. Sign stated “closed until further notice.”

Verified reviewGuam Reef has been my staycation hotel since I came to Guam due to its infinity pool, near Tumon beach and good price. Our last stay, the staff esp Mike addressed our concern that air con was not working that he gave us another room.
It’s old and most aircon are not working good.
