How guest reviews work
Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We use a weighted review system which means that the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
- Politically sensitive comments
- Promotional content
- Illegal activities
- Personal or sensitive information (e.g. emails, phone numbers or credit card info)
- Swear words, sexual references, hate speech, discriminatory remarks, threats, or references to violence
- Spam and fake content
- Animal cruelty
- Impersonation (e.g. if the writer is claiming to be someone else)
- Any violation of our review guidelines.
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
Guidelines and standards for Reviews
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

Verified reviewMr. Smith and his wife welcomed me very friendly after my long journey from Suriname. Mr. Smith helped me to order a taxi to get to the atm because I did not chose to contact him in advance to make a pre-payment. After the driver overcharged me, he immediately called the company's boss to make sure I would get the overcharged amount back (which worked just fine). The rooms were very clean and there was a/c working. Also the shower and toilet were clean and they hand out towels in case needed. WiFi is fast enough to stream movies or sports. The breakfast is an English breakfast including eggs, toast and sausages and Ms. Smith prepared it every morning at whatever time I woke up. Mr. Smith also offers airport transfers for a reasonable price. The communication with them was great, they were very loblvely and helpful, also for tours and information, and I really enjoyed my stay at their guest house. Thank you very much!
I missed nothing, I had an amazing stay!
Thanks very much for your kind and loving review. We appreciate it.

A very warm and friendly gentleman. Please come back again.

This guest surely didn't take time off to read and understand that it's a Homestay she was booking and not a Hotel. She and her husband came but he didn't get in pass the door. She came in and was shown the room. she asked for the toilet 🚻 and was told that it's down to corridor so she marched out. She didn't pay although she was required to pay. Everything at my residence was fully described on BNB . Ours is not a five star hotel. It's a Homestay. A home where I live as well. We charge a small amount of money for strangers from all over the world to come and share with us. We endeavor to give our customers the best experience at a Homestay they have ever had but u have to go to a first 🌟 star Hotel to if you need five star facilities.

Verified reviewThis guesthouse was spectacular... The couple that runs it were so hospitable and fun to talk to that I didn't want to leave. The guesthouse itself has such an authentic Caribbean feel to it that it could be used in a movie. Really great stay all around.

Verified reviewI appreciated this homestay as a soft landing for my trip to Guyana. Elvis and Claudia were kind and friendly. As long as you set your expectations for staying in a local's home and living life as they would live it, I do not think you'll be disappointed. The room was clean. The a/c and wifi worked well. The breakfast was nice. If you need a hotel experience, this is not for you.
Thank very much staying with us. We endeavour to make your stay as happy and comfortable as possible. Thank you very much.

My 19yo daughter had a very hostile reception at this place where they yelled at her and bullied her from the moment she stepped in the door. These people were crazy! She called me for help because they weren't listening to her while she was calmly and respectfully trying to communicate with them about finding an ATM so she could get cash to pay, and I could here them aggessively yelling at her demanding cash right now while she was trying to speak and ask for their help to find an ATM. She had arrived by herself in this country at night, completely dependent on their service and accomodation and now she became very afraid and was near tears and wanted to leave but the man told her she couldn't. And after another half hour of she and trying to figure out what to do on the phone with them continuing to yell and badger her, the man told her he didn't want her staying there and kicked her out in the middle of the night! Thankfully, at least, the woman started to be nicer (after we said we would report them) and offered to call the taxi back to take her away to another hotel where they were very kind and helpful and she was able to recover. My daughter was very shaken from this experience! She's traveled solo around the world (part of her World Record journey raising funds for UN Women and women's empowerment) and never ever been treated with such hostility. I have no idea how these people are able to run an establisment because from what I heard on the phone, they sounded highly volatile and dysfunctional. There has since been a review on Google where a couple experienced the exact same thing happened to them! Even on Booking.com, there was somebody who mentioned how Mr.Smith gets moody if he doesn't like what you say. So it is not just solo females. I am not one to give negative reviews, I always look for the positive and try to support the places that we stay at.
Jessica was picked up from the airport 🛫 by one of the taxi 🚕 that works for smith's Homestay. she arrived about 5pm. She was welcomed by me and shown to her room. after about half an hour I asked her for her payment for the room. she told me just now. I waited over one hour before returning to her room to find out what was happening. She said she was on the phone 📱. Shortly after she came out of her room crying stating that her mother booked her reservation and that she had no cash. I volunteer to take her to a cashpoint but she claimed she wanted a taxi to take her. All this time there was absolutely no shouting from either side. There were other guests that witnessed everything in the living room. she was on her phone 📱 to her mother crying and videoing and complaining about things that was never happening. She spent about three hours in my room and didn't pay a cent. The other guests that witnessed everything quietly expressed their amazement. They awarded their a top review of 8. When a guest entere your premises to stay. They are required to pay or to offer an explanation not go in there room and lock up quietly. I promptly reported this matter the following morning to the reservation section of booking.com. Does Jessica's mother who has never ever visited my property and never had any communication with me have the right to evaluate her daughter stay at smith's Homestay

Verified reviewThe beds were comfortable.
I have been travelling for about 8 years and this was my worst experience through Booking.com. I confirm a comment I have previously read about the place: the owner is terrible, agressive, absolutely rude and mean. We arrived after a long journey by land from Suriname and he was yelling at us for no reason, forcing us to pay him immediately. He wanted US$ which we didn't have, forced us to get to an ATM to withdraw cash as soon as possible. He even drove us there for a fee so he can make money at the same time. For information it is written on Booking.com that he accepts credit card which is a lie. I honestly don't think that he legally declares the money he makes. Once this was sorted out, he said that he upgraded us but this was actually the room that I have booked (that has two double beds) and he downgraded on the next day because he had other customers in this same room. We finally didn't spend the night in the room we booked. Early in the morning, he was shouting (like most of the time) which woke us up. (I need to say that his wife usually stays out of everything and she seemed to be a really nice lady.) The owner was only nice and polite with us when it was about getting money from us like going to the airport for $US 50. Often he was offering to drive us to the city for a fee whereas there is a bus stop right across the road of this place (bus ride is $US 0.5). We honestly didn't feel comfortable staying with this man, we only stayed with the commodity of not having to look for another hotel and because we had already paid. I can't recommend him at all. I will also contact Booking.com to report him and his behavior. This is not a way to treat customers.
This guest booked a double room from 11th to 14th 2025. He didn't show up for the reservation until the 12th. I told him that my double rooms are full at the moment so I can accommodate them in a family room which is an upgrade for the same double room price. I also told him that the family room is booked for the following day and his double room will be vacant so I will refer him the following day to the double room. He agreed so he occupied the family room for the first night. On the following day when the double rooms became vacant so he was asked to occupy it so that I can clean up the family room in preparation for a guest that booked it. He refused to occupy the double room saying that he booked a room with two beds which was not true so I called booking.com and asked for their intervention. They promised to call 📞 him. I don't know what happened further but he quietly moved into the double room and the matter came to an end. Payments: when they arrive and was settled in their room I asked him if we can settled Payments, he asked if I accept credit cards? I said I have a prepayment system. u can pay PayPal with your credit card , or you can pay me cash here . If you r abroad u can use western Union, money gramme or PayPal. He asked me if he can pay me tomorrow and I asked why ? He said he has to go to a cashpoint. I told him I can take him then because it was still daylight. He agreed and we went. He settled my bill and we were ok. I even took off 360 Guyana 🇬🇾 dollars off his bill. Some customers claim that I shouted at them when they find themselves in the wrong, and has nothing to complain about. I worked in London for a number of years and I give very good customer service always.

Verified reviewElvis and his wife Claudia are exceptional hosts who truly care about their guests. During our stay, they showed unparalleled kindness and generosity, even dedicating an entire day to help us explore my partner’s family roots. His local knowledge and genuine interest in ensuring we had an unforgettable experience made the trip truly special. When we faced unexpected challenges, Elvis was a steady and reassuring presence, going out of his way to support us and make us feel safe and cared for. From thoughtful recommendations (including helping us to organise a trip to the Kaieteur falls!) to seamless transportation and heartfelt hospitality, Elvis went far beyond what we could have ever expected. Staying with him isn’t just a place to rest—it’s an experience that will leave you with unforgettable memories and a deep appreciation for his kindness.
Be prepared for the fact it can be reasonably loud in the evenings, and that it is a shared bathroom. For what we paid, the value was amazing and we’d come back again in a heartbeat.

Verified reviewBreakfast was good. Arranged for my airport pick up/drop off with Elvis and he gave me contact info for the bus to Suriname. He also let me have an early check in that accommodated my early flight.
There is no soundproofing at all, just a random wall put in that is not fully closed off at the top so you can hear everything is going on around you. Loud TV going on at all times and just alot of noise which was very unpleasant. Water was also an issue, the bathroom sink barely had water and several times the toilet had flushing issues. The power also went out at night two of the four nights I was here and so the AC would turn off and very hot and uncomfortable to sleep and my phone couldnt charge either when that happened.
It was the Caribbean Premier league Cricket Competition playing in Georgetown Guyana. Teams and visitors from all over the Caribbean came to Guyana for the championship. Most of my guests preferred to watch it at times on the big screen television in the living room. It was fun for everyone else except her. it started at 7pm and finished at about 10:30pm on the nights of the games. She never indicated once that she was being disturbed. Anyhow I will apologise to her for disturbing her. we always had adequate water at the promise. once the lights were out about 5am one morning. I was asleep. when I woke up and found the lights off I immediately rectified the problem. We were for about an hour without lights.
