How guest reviews work
Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We use a weighted review system which means that the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
- Politically sensitive comments
- Promotional content
- Illegal activities
- Personal or sensitive information (e.g. emails, phone numbers or credit card info)
- Swear words, sexual references, hate speech, discriminatory remarks, threats, or references to violence
- Spam and fake content
- Animal cruelty
- Impersonation (e.g. if the writer is claiming to be someone else)
- Any violation of our review guidelines.
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
Guidelines and standards for Reviews
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

Verified reviewIt was close to the center and in a very quite neighborhood. The owner/manager is very nice guy. He can arrange the taxi also if you need.
There was very little natural light. The room was small. There was a family with kids that made noises sometimes. The "guest house" in the name is a bit confusing. You just rent a room in a building, there is no reception, you will need to contact the owner to hand over the room to you.
For 50 usd we offer central location, clean environment, good customer service, king sized bed fully self contained rooms with AC. A contact number is provided for guests to make contact to check in. The guest had no difficulty checking in even though the booking was last minute. Thanks for the feedback Sunil.

Verified reviewGood location and fine for a place to get settled and started in Guyana. Airconditioning and bed were good. Provided tea and coffee.
Wasn't really able to hang out on the balcony so mostly confined to room when there.

Verified reviewThe property is centrally located, but tucked away from the main streets. Felt very safe as you are surrounded by government buildings all of which are watched over by round the clock security staff. Not imposing, but their presence made me feel safer. Rooms are spacious and we were grateful to have the option of air conditioning when it was too hot to sit outside on the balcony. Robert is a great host; not at all intrusive and we were grateful for this patience and helpful advice whenever we had any queries. Highly recommend.
The property could have been cleaner. There were some areas of seemingly long standing dust such as the fan in the living room, doors etc could've done with a wipe down - appreciate that the city is dusty and so this is something to consider. However, the main areas: bathroom, kitchen surfaces and living room are an acceptable standard. Facilities/provided amenities could also have been better. However, the most frustrating thing about our stay was the lack of surfaces: hooks, hangers and shelving on which to hang our things. 3 hangers isn't enough and I never realised how much I personally need a bedside table/shelf (to hold my phone, book and a glass of water etc). Also as an Airbnb/apartment rental would have expected to be provided with basic cleaning items: toilet cleaner, washing up liquid, a broom with dust pan and brush to clean up after ourselves. We stayed longer than typical guests but the place started to feel very messy and space was too limited for tooth brushes; make up; hanging wet towels etc.

Thanks for the review Anil. We would encourage you to stay longer on your next visit. You came in at 11 pm and leave by 8 am next day. Your visit might’ve been too short which only permitted time to sleep.

Verified reviewVery accommodating and flexible staff. The accommodation is value for money in a country which is rather expensive at the moment. Ultimately, it is the country itself that needs to develop more so that it can offer value for money accommodation especially in connectivity. I am certain that this will come about in the years to come with proper governance.
The country infrastructure is still under developed so getting around requires a lot of walking, waiting and expense in the heat or rain. It will take time perhaps for this to develop and then perhaps the country can flourish as a tourist destination.

Verified reviewI loved my stay: clean, comfortable. VERY big bed. Hot shower, microwave, freezer and hair dryer. Loved the location because it’s in a quieter (and SAFER) area in Georgetown. Robert has helped me with everything possible. He really went above and beyond (picked me up at the airport, helped me when i realized i needed to go to Cherri airport rather than Ogle!!!! Paid for my taxi for me because I didn’t have enough cash for the rest of my travels…). He is a very friend, caring and considerate person. I would totally recommend Hollywood guesthouse!!!

Verified reviewSmall, simple room. I don't know if I would recommend it for two people (i was in room #5). Hot water, a/c, and wifi all worked well. Room had netflix, streaming apps as well. Walkable location, quiet neighborhood at night and in the morning. Walls are a little thin if you have noisy neighbors.
there isn't anywhere outside to sit or anywhere other than the bed in the room to sit. having somewhere else to sit on the property would have been nice.

Verified reviewThe communication and helpfulness of the owner was fantastic. Prior to my arrival he let me know how I could get to the lodging by taking a mini-bus from the airport to the central market, and then connecting to a 2nd bus (about $2 vs. taking a taxi for $50 - I was traveling light; should have taken ear plugs for the bus ride). On the day before I came (!), I wanted to arrange a bus trip to Paramirabo, leaving the next morning, and within minutes of my arrival to the lodging, he had taken care of the arrangements (Notes: One is now supposed to previously make an electronic arrangement for a visa to Suriname, but I was unable to do this. However, at the border, it was done for me ($53 total). Also, there is a ferry crossing ($15?) that was not included in the $100 round trip bus fare, where I made the payment directly to the ferry boat operator). The lodging had air con and a fridge (and kitchen) and wifi. Though I was just there to sleep, I thought the lodging was very satisfactory.

Verified reviewGood central location. The room I was given was more like an apartment, there was access to a living room and full kitchen, which was nice to cut up some local fruit from the market. The room was clean and cozy, with a huge bed. You should always be aware when walking around Georgetown, but the location of this apartment felt pretty safe. It's right next to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Office of the President, so it felt secure and was quiet at night. Definitely read the other reviews for tips on finding the place and checking in.
As other reviewers have mentioned, the tv was not that useful, which isn't a big deal. My only complaint was that the only outlet in the room was behind a massive wardrobe and not accessible. I had to charge my phone in the bathroom, which was inconvenient. The owner should add an extension cord in the room.
Thanks for your feedback they will greatly help as we aim to make our guests experience a pleasant one. There’s an outlet at the edge of the bed however it’s not that visible due to the size of the bed and we will correct this.

Verified reviewMy stay at the Hollywood Guesthouse was fantastic! Robert was a wonderful host, and the place was spacious, clean, and well-maintained. The internet worked flawlessly, and Robert even arranged a shuttle from the airport for me. He also provides a small phone for guests to use, which is convenient for calling taxis. I highly recommend this guest house to anyone!
