How guest reviews work
Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We use a weighted review system which means that the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
- Politically sensitive comments
- Promotional content
- Illegal activities
- Personal or sensitive information (e.g. emails, phone numbers or credit card info)
- Swear words, sexual references, hate speech, discriminatory remarks, threats, or references to violence
- Spam and fake content
- Animal cruelty
- Impersonation (e.g. if the writer is claiming to be someone else)
- Any violation of our review guidelines.
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
Guidelines and standards for Reviews
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

Verified reviewThis was our second stay at Puerta Azul. We've stayed in both the beachfront and garden cabins, and have been pleased with both locations. We love snorkeling off the dock and all the way out to Spooky Channel. Julie's perfect margaritas and Rose's delicious homemade meals (try her curry snapper fillet) keep us coming back.
Nada.

Verified reviewThis property was so relaxing, I loved the layout and the atmosphere. It is right in front of the beach nestled in his own little area. You get the best of Roatan without a lot of tourists on the beach. The sunsets here are so beautiful. The owners and the staff were extremely friendly. They made sure we had what we needed, organized transportation and made sure we were well fed. There is an in house restaurant which is ideal if you plan on just lounging and sitting at the beach front your entire stay! They even have snorkeling gear and floaties, you can go into the water and see beautiful fish and sea creatures. I travel quite a bit and I was impressed, I could definitely see myself returning to Puerta Azul to unplug and reset.
Overall everything was great! My friend and I were bitten a lot by sand flies but this is nothing to do with the property, just a word of advice to bring lots of mosquito repellent or something to relieve the itching from the bites. If you plan on go around town it might be worth renting a car if you would like the ease of moving around.

Verified reviewThe owners and staff were excellent - courteous, very friendly, and helpful. The staff happily contacted establishments we were interested in to confirm that they were open and what their hours were. The arranged needed taxis. The property was beautifully landscaped. The cabins were well designed and beautifully furnished. Each cabin had an outdoor shower to rinse the sand off. The beach was groomed each morning. There was a long dock that you could swim off of.

Verified reviewA beautiful boutique hotel in a quiet location.
We arrived on a Sunday and everything closed early (front desk & restaurant). We had an issue with the WiFi and it took ages before we managed to get hold of the Manager.
Thank you for your feedback, Leeandra! Our kitchen does close at 3 PM on Sundays, but our reception was and is open every day until 4:30 PM. At check-in, we share that we're available after hours through the number provided in the information booklet found in your room. The Wi-Fi password, which had not been typed in your phone, is also located on the first page of that booklet. Hopefully this information helps future guests!

Thank you for your lovely review, Tere! It was a pleasure having you both here, and we are glad you were able to enjoy the food and property. Speaking of the property - we can reassure you that the neighbor's kitten is indeed being fed daily. :)

Verified reviewRooms are tastefully appointed. Kitchen staff are delightful. Pier out over water is great for getting past shallow areas of sea grass. Food on site is good, and there are quite a few nearby restaurants with great food.
This is obviously not the fault of the resort, but the reefs all around Roatan, including the reef near the resort, have been devasted by stoney coral tissue loss disease in the past year or two. Roatan has been long been known for having some of the best snorkeling and diving in the Carribean, but unfortunately this is no longer the case. I wish I had known this before choosing to go to Roatan, but the information doesn't seem to have percolated up to tourist information sites as yet, at least not that I saw. I was also a little disappointed by the hotel setting. The grounds are lovely and well maintained, but keep in mind that the grounds are at most 100 ft wide and sandwiched between two high walls, with neighboring buildings close by. The beach is fine, but quite developed. Again, this was probably my fault for not figuring this out before we went. Hopefully this information can help other travelers who likewise value pristine settings find the right destinations for them. Some minor quibbles - coffee was bad, toilet area needs a door, and beach front bungalows would benefit from screens that would allow you to have doors open to the view and breeze without letting in bugs.
Hi Caitlin - thank you for your feedback! We always appreciate the opportunity to improve and provide clarity. Regarding the reef, you're correct that SCTLD impacted the Mesoamerican Reef - including Roatan - in 2019. However, it's important to note that the current challenges our reef faces are part of a global issue. Reefs worldwide - including those in the South Pacific, Red Sea, and Indian Ocean - have experienced 4 mass bleaching events in the past year due to warming waters caused by human-induced climate change. The good news is that reefs have an incredible ability to bounce back! Having witnessed these challenges firsthand, you now have the power to take action and make a difference. We highly recommend checking out NOAA's list of actionable steps to help save the world's reefs. As for our grounds, we take pride in maintaining our lovely and well-kept property. While it is true that our space is cozy and nestled between neighboring buildings, we believe this contributes to the intimate, secluded, and authentic atmosphere our guests cherish. Lastly, we're surprised to hear about your experience with our coffee. Many of our guests rave about it, as it is sourced from an ethical Honduran-owned company that works directly with farmers to improve their quality of life. We appreciate your feedback and will certainly look into this to ensure every cup of coffee meets our high standards. Thank you once again for your comments. We hope to welcome you back in the future and provide you with an even better experience.

Verified reviewGood location. Friendly, helpful staff. Delicious food and drink.
Went several days without wi-fi despite asking about it. Eventually, a staff member was able to restart it for us. Snorkeling to reef off dock was not as easy as implied. Had to swim across boat lane, etc.
Thank you so much for choosing to stay with us and for taking the time to share your experience, Lynn. It was an absolute pleasure hosting you and your group! We understand how frustrating it can be to experience connectivity issues, and we sincerely apologize for any inconvenience this may have caused. We're pleased to report that the internet was working on the majority of our property during your stay, and we were able to fully resolve the connectivity along our beachfront after identifying and fixing a wiring issue. We're delighted to hear that you enjoyed the snorkeling directly in front of the hotel! However, we want to emphasize the importance of exercising caution when snorkeling near Spooky Channel, a clearly marked boat channel located approximately 400 meters east of our property. We like to recommend taking out the complimentary kayaks or paddleboards for increased visibility and ease of access to reef.
