How guest reviews work
Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We use a weighted review system which means that the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
- Politically sensitive comments
- Promotional content
- Illegal activities
- Personal or sensitive information (e.g. emails, phone numbers or credit card info)
- Swear words, sexual references, hate speech, discriminatory remarks, threats, or references to violence
- Spam and fake content
- Animal cruelty
- Impersonation (e.g. if the writer is claiming to be someone else)
- Any violation of our review guidelines.
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
Guidelines and standards for Reviews
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

Verified reviewLocation was very good. Close to sand bay beach and only a 10min taxi/bus to west end.
The bed for the double room is pretty small for a couple.

Verified reviewBasic rooms but fine. Kitchen is good. Close to supermarket
Shower was hot but went cold everytime. No free water.
Thanks for your review, we're glad you enjoyed your stay. Our water heaters are gas on-demand units, as they are the most energy efficient, eco-friendly option. They're a bit finicky- you need to start with just hot, and adjust with a little cold. Tap water is not potable here. We don't sell small bottles of water because of all the plastic waste. A purified warer refill station has a small fee ($0.40 per litre), or guests can buy a 20 litre bottle for $4.

Verified reviewStaff was super helpful and friendly. The kitchen and pool were awesome and I met so many friendly fellow travelers. Just a short taxi to west end and nice to be away from all the super touristy and overpriced stuff but to have the easy option to go there. Loved it. Miss it already

Verified reviewI only stayed here for one night, but thought it was excellent. I stayed in a very reasonably priced private room, which was basic but super clean. Breakfast is offered on site if you would like it, and there are lots of places to hang out around the hostel. There was a great vibe with the guests when I was there, mostly people on their own and a real mix of nationalities and ages. They had decided to go into west end of a quiz night and I joined them which was fun.

Verified reviewfriendly, happy staff, especially the owner Dayo (probably spelt the name wrong, but that's how it is in the song) volunteer staff exceptionally friendly, but of course that changes monthly cleanliness exceptional small lockers, but functional for money and passport kitchen the most organized of any hostel ever. individual food boxes fit in cleanest, most organized fridge ever
location not exactly waterfront or in town. $1 bus ride into town, but if you are a late night partier, it will be a $5 cab ride home, if you can find one inland location means it will be hot and buggy. screens on windows, but the fan in the room was weak puddles in the approach road give it a third world initial impression

Verified reviewClean, comfortable private room with a well-maintained shared bathroom. The outdoor seating area is relaxing, and the pool is perfect for cooling off. The staff is amazing—super friendly and helpful. The location is excellent, just a short walk to a large supermarket. It’s also convenient for exploring, with taxis or colectivos to West End costing only $1–$2 and taking about 10 minutes. A great budget-friendly option with a welcoming atmosphere!

Sometimes the community kitchen was a bit messy.

Verified reviewThe staff (especially Dale) was super nice and told us all about the island and what to do. A good value compared to other options on the island especially for private rooms. Has a supermarket right nearby and also a great comedor.
Some people don’t keep the kitchen super clean

Verified reviewDuring my recent stay at Roatan Backpackers' Hostel, I had the pleasure of staying in one of their unique converted container rooms. This was an ideal blend of privacy and affordability, and felt like a tranquil retreat without straining my budget. The room was clean and comfortable, offering a cozy haven after days filled with island exploration. The hostel's communal areas were excellent and always tidy, and the pool was in amazing condition, providing a refreshing escape from the tropical heat. Beyond the accommodations, the hostel's atmosphere was warm and inviting. The communal kitchen and dining area had a sense of community among guests, making it easy to connect with fellow travelers. The hostel's location in Sandy Bay offered easy access to local attractions and public transportation to explore the rest of the island. The staff were friendly and helpful, providing valuable insights into local attractions and dining options. Overall, my experience at Roatan Backpackers' Hostel was exceptional, and I look forward to returning on my next visit to the island.

Verified reviewThe property was a lot more than it looks and very well kept. Mel and Belkis provided excellent service, assisted with transport recommends and there was a store and gym 5 minutes up the street. A perfect place to rest after a long flight.
Wish I would have known about the taxi scam at the airport, walk to the main road and catch a taxi or bus for 20% of the cost of the taxi scammers. The road was a bit washed out and muddy from the rain, but worth the effort.
