We were excited to stay at “Happy Villa” and had planned our entire trip around the promise of an authentic Croatian experience. There were some positives worth mentioning: The host was kind enough to drive us to the supermarket to pick up groceries, and later also dropped us 2km to our next accommodation. He also agreed to refund us for the unused nights when we chose to leave early, as he didn’t want it to affect his ratings.

Unfortunately, despite our initial excitement, we ended up leaving the accommodation three days early as we didn’t feel comfortable during our stay. One of the main reasons we chose this property was based on reviews that described a relaxing experience with attentive hosts, the hosts, who said they don’t live on the property although would be available if needed. When we arrived, Irina showed us around and pointed out the areas we could use, including a small budget jacuzzi on the left side of the property that was not shown in any of the booking.com photos. There is another unit upstairs (unoccupied at the time), and we were happy with the idea of sharing the pool and jacuzzi with other guests. However, the shared spaces were instead regularly used by the hosts’ family, including school-aged children and their friend playing ball games. While we understand the pool and jacuzzi are communal areas, it felt like we were under constant observation, as the family frequently ate meals overlooking those areas. We also experienced a significant lack of privacy. John was often gardening right outside our bedroom windows from 7 a.m., washing his car in our view, and at times even interrupting private conversations. By the second day, it became clear that the reality of the stay didn’t align with the glowing online reviews, and we decided to leave early. There was no “in-house bar or lounge” or sauna for use as stated online. Additionally, we had requested a cot for our baby months in advance, but it wasn’t located until halfway through the first day as they “couldn’t find it” When we did receive it, it smelled strongly of mildew from storage. We had to scrub it with detergent and air it out before our baby could sleep in it. After we left, one of the hosts called to say we had left the kitchen in a mess, which we found quite upsetting. Before leaving, we had run the dishwasher, taken out the bins, and I even swept the floors the night before.

Thank you for your review! After 17 years of hosting happy guests, your feedback was… let’s say, refreshingly unique. 😊 Luckily, we took photos of how you left the apartment — a scene worthy of its own Netflix documentary — and we’re more than happy to share the highlights should anyone be curious. 📸 We truly believe reviews should reflect reality, and while we didn’t quite recognize your version of it, we absolutely recognize the extra costs we covered on your behalf, with a smile (and a receipt). Future guests are smart — they’ll read between the lines and see the full picture. Despite everything, we sincerely wish you a safe journey back to Australia, where the animals are wild, but hopefully the guests are a little less so. 🦘😉

Amazing apartment. Such good value for money. Lovely little pool and hot tub! John and Irina were so thoughtful and we were so looked after. John (a chef) made bread with my keen baker daughter (10 years old) which she loved. We were able to borrow a paddle board too and walked down the steps (5mins) to be in the sea! The kitchen was really well equipped so we ended up cooking and eating on our beautiful terrace more than we expected. We will be back, I’m sure.

We liked everything but definitely recommend having a car to get around.

This was by far one of the best accommodations we ever stayed in! It really exceeded in everything and listing all the positive things we found would take to much space to write. The hosts were very welcoming and helpful; we were very well looked after. As I like cooking, it was great that I could use various fruits, vegetables and herbs from the garden to prepare our meals. John is a great cook and on two occasions we took part on his evening celebrations were he cooked fantastic meals and we enjoyed Dalmatian live music. From time to time John provided us with culinary samples of his cooking, this including home made pizza, etc.. - I think it is fair to say that we all left with lots of more weight on our hips :). We enjoyed the great atmosphere and the children in particular loved the jacuzzi and pool. Overall we had a great time and would love to come back!

There was nothing we did not like about the accommodation! It might be worth mentioning though that in the village (around the harbour) are three restaurants if you want to go out for a meal. They are all though relatively expensive. There is one supermarket which is the only local option for shopping which can be very limited in what they stock and is more on the expensive side too. Having said the above, we would recommend that you have ideally a car for shopping and also to explore the island more.
